Hi. My family (2 adults, 2 children) are flying to Japan via HKG on CX economy. I am Qantas Platinum - my husband and kids have zilch status. What lounge access rights will we have and what lounge is most accommodating for kids? After reading various footnotes, I'm not convinced that there is any lounge that I can get all 4 of us into, but I figured I'd ask this forum. I have gotten all 4 of us in no problem to Qantas - domestic (platinum)and international (business) but not sure whether I can count on the same in HKG. Thank you!

IIRC the Qantas Hong Kong Lounge has the same access options - so family plus kids should be OK as per Aussie locations. I think the CX lounges, from memory, will not allow that many guests. But happy to be wrong on this!

Thanks - I wonder if this will be true on a CX ticket - fingers-crossed, as I think this may be our only option. The CX lounge rules seem pretty clear (not in a good way).

so the answer is - denied!

QF Melbourne business lounge (I'm platinum) denied my family of 4 access prior to our CX economy booking. Said 2 of us could go in (they counted the children as full people) and that all of us would have been allowed in on a QF flight. It was annoying, but not a big deal (all we wanted was food & coffee, so we just went to a cafe and paid for it). Once we were denied, I didn't even try the CX lounge in HKG.

We still received all the other perks (luggage allowance, early boarding). It does confirm in my mind that once I have the 135 SCs I need to have Lifetime Gold, I am done chasing QF points/SCs. Gold will give me what I need (the perks that you need to make an economy flight a bit better - esp when travelling within the USA).

As an aside, the person who denied us was the Q agent that I see most office in the first class international lounge when I fly for work.
