Just a question for you well travelled folk - what options can anyone suggest for airlines flying the from Hong Kong to Singapore then on to Sydney one way in October 2012 traveling economy with a 2/3 day stop over in Singapore on the way?

I have looked into Singapore airlines and they are quoting one way about $480 AUD equiv. or thereabouts for the ticket. QAN is about $1300. But any suggestions on where else I can look or is this a decent price/ or likely to get cheaper if I wait? I've never looked at buying this far out from the traveling date so don't know how prices may fluctuate in the 'market'.

Thanks in advance!

I would have thought that AUD480 on Singapore Airlines would be a good fare for their quality, especially if you get points also. :)

Take jetstar hkg-sin then qantas to australia on a seperate ticket....has been cheaper than sq the last 2 times ive taken the route this year.

If you want it all on one airline, then SG is about the only choice. If wanting to purchase as a single ticket but fly on different airlines, then combinations like CX/QF, CX/BA, 3K/QF. Then you can also consider separate tickets for each of the sectors, especially if wanting a few days in SIN, then you open up lots of other options including EK for SIN-SYD.

But I doubt you will find it much cheaper than the $480 you mention from SG.

Given the stop-over, there shouldn't be any issue getting 2 separate tickets. Although, given the $480 SQ option, I don't think I would bother look at anything else. In which case, you would have the choice of taking the newer 77W OR A388 on the HKG-SIN leg, instead of the 3K A320. That alone is some value in my terms.

Also, note that none of the middle east carriers fly direct SIN-SYD. You would have to connect to another airline in MEL or BNE, so if you don't like connections, your choices from SIN really diminishes.

If the $480 means HKG-SIN-SYD, then I'd look no further. That seems very cheap for those sectors. Or do you mean HKG-SIN only was $480 with SQ?

Also worth considering buying a return, one-way tickets are typically not good value and the return leg could be used at a later date for future travel...I have a spare SYD-SIN up my sleeve for next year which not only made both legs cheaper individually than a one way but will also benefit by making my next trip ex SIN much cheaper than if it were ex AUS.
