Trying to book an award for hkg-syd. checking cx availability on asia miles shows only 330 availability. Does 330 refer to regional config or the new J config.

And which is better on this route qf or cx (assuming cx as the new j config).

Or would it be better to do hkg-mel-syd so that hkg-mel can be done in QF F, does F have lie flat beds?

CX 330 services into Sydney are usually the new 2-class config with herringbone J config. I guess its possible they will have an aircraft sub, but its not common.

Better is the one that has availability on the day and time you want to travel! CX has more flight options, including one daytime and 3 overnight flights. QAF has one daytime and one overnight. If overnight, I would seriously consider CX for their horizontal beds vs QF's sloping Skybeds. For daytime, it really does not make as much difference.

QF awards in F are very expensive for the additional benefit. So for me, I would take a daytime direct routing in J rather than an overnight flight in F via MEL.

Hi,

Do you happen to know if the CX flight from MEL to HKG has the new business class product? I'm on the flight this Sunday/Monday CX 168.

Thanks

Yes, according to the EF seat map, its herringbone J config on both Sunday and Monday.

Thanks for that. Do you think its worth subscribing to EF? or can the same information be found on some of the free sites such as seatcounter etc?

Unless they've changed the timetable for QF30, isn't it a dayflight to MEL? This would also need an o/night connection in MEL before continuing onto SYD next morning, which is a downside too.

Anyway, I concur, I'd take direct on new CX J, over via MEL on QF 744 F. In Oct I flew QF F (SIN-LHR thanks to an op-up :p). And later in same itinerary CX new J product (SFO-HKG). Wouldn't see the value in spending extra points on QF F over CX J. Seats both lie flat - and just as good service on CX (this is admittedly from one who doesn't drink much champagne, so which version of champagne being served is not an issue for me - although I realise it is for many!). And frankly, 55 minutes from take off to actually recieving my first drink on QF (without turbulence) was not the F experience I was looking forward when they handed me the shiny colored BP at the FCL in MEL! The only catch with CX - no PJ's.

Ahh, yes. I was thinking QF29 the other way which is overnight. I have indeed done QF30 HKG-MEL in F for the very reason that its is a daytime flight. But then had to overnight in MEL as no connections to BNE that late.

IIRC there is a QF F product HKG-SYD , its flight no. 128

There is indeed, but I would "take care" with QF127/128 if wishing to fly F, as it seems to be the route that is most often substituted with A330's (i.e. 2 class) when 744's are short.

It may just be bad luck, but my last 2 F flights on this route have both been downgraded to J for this reason. I re-routed on one occasion via SIN, but just accepted it on the 2nd occasion (with $300 compensation).

If this happened on an award flight, surely they would just refund you the 30,000 pts difference rather than paying $300 compensation (unless part of an more extended F itinerary)?

Both segments were part of different AONE4's. Technically, I was lucky to receive any compensation given the rules of the fare basis - I didn't ask, but was happy to accept it.

It was available online for a few days, not long ago; but looks like you need to ring up to do it again now. 2,500 points fee for a phone booking. Also, there currently seems to be a lot of CX availability via QFF.

Also, welcome to AFF QFBACX99.

what dates and sectors do you see the cx availability. I am looking for hkg-syd/mel in april and cannot find any cx flights online.
