Ok here we go, my first TR, I'm interested to see how this plans out.

12th January 2010 - QF1010 HBA-MEL - Business

Got up at a very early hour of the morning to get ready for my first flight, I was pretty excited that I was seeing my Relatives for the first time in about ten years, especially since the last time I saw my cousins they were both little babies.

Arrived at Hobart at around 5:15am for a 6:05am departure, Flight was full to the brim (might have something to do with only two HBA-MEL QF flights), economy PAX were lined up paitently waiting and I got a few stares of death as I walked down the Business check in line, check in was smooth and I recieved my BP's right through even though both legs were on a seperate ticket, was commented by the check in agent about how lucky I was to get a U class upgrade on this flight.

We left HBA right on 6:05am, would have to have been the smoothest takeoff i have ever experienced on QF, pilot was very in control, was offered breakfast (Accepted of course) consisting of Museil of some sort, and a warm quiche pie thingy, was quite nice even though I am not really a museli person, tray was taken from me as soon as i had finished, could not really fault Qantas at all on this flight in regards to the service, but i will say that my Headset was playing up the whole way (crackly and alternating between ears, touched down in MEL at 7:15am and I went directly to Gate 7 for my next flight.

12th January 2010 - QF608 MEL-BNE - Economy Class

Departed MEL late due to strong winds, this flight felt weird all the way as the business seat was so much bigger, the 734's have really seen better days though, was seated next to some Dweeb (there was a worse word but I can't say it here) who kept turning around to his friends in the next row knocking me multiple times in the process, was offered breakfast again and I accepted, once again it was museli but this one was really nice (it was called Granola or something and I have since bought a box of it.) meal tray also had some hot fruit bun thing which was as hard as a rock but still tasty, service took a little longer but I took my own tray to the back of the cabin anyway when i asked for more orange juice. flight was really uneventful and my headset worked well on this flight.

Brisbane Airport really needs to get baggage handling up to stratch, all the passengers from the flight and another two flights passed before I even saw my bag again.

Brisbane Airport - Sunshine Coast

Phone Rang as soon as I switched it on in the arrivals hall at BNE, it was the Shuttle Bus driver (Col's airport shuttle i think it is called), he asked where i was and said he would pick me up early as they had two buses at BNE, this is really a great service overall, it cost $40 to get dropped to the front door of my Aunt's house in Buderim and the driver was really friendly making jokes and giving advice on things to do, public transport, shopping etc., i highly recommend this service to anyone heading up that way from BNE.

Well thats it for this leg, i will post on BNE-HBA when I get back to HBA

Cheers,
Josh

Very nice. I hate it when the headsets crackle, sometimes a replacement one fixes it 99% of the time ... 1% being a dodgy jack!

Thanks for the TR - my sister is moving to Hobart so will probably be doing this trip sooner than later.

I too hate dodgy headsets.....

Funny, Because I want to move the other way, Tasmania seems primitive compared to Queensland

Haha, she's moving from Melbourne. And yes, I expect she'll find it a culture shock.

Well I am a Queenslander working 13 of the next 16 weeks in Tassie.Yes they are 30 years behind but the good news is they are working on making it 50:D.
Seeing i am spending so much time here I decided to apply for permanent residency but I failed the medical:oops:.They couldn't find the scar on my neck:shock:.

I find our Airport the most embarrassing, I mean can't we even try to make a good impression, Hobartians are always bagging out the north (i.e Launceston) but even they are more advanced than Hobart.

Seriously considering a move though, sooner I get out the better, I've been staying in Buderim for the last two weeks and its quite nice, The humidity gets to me though

I said what I have to say about HBA in a recent TR. I remember describing baggage reclaim as barely big enough to hold a flea circus. Get more than one flight in there, forget it.

Have only had one experience with the DJ/TT baggage claim, but the QF/JQ one is bloody terrible, I think around 10:00 is the worst when QF1011 and a JQ flight land about 5 mins apart. Its a mad rush when the JQ pax think their better than the QF pax and push to the front of the carousel even though their bags don't come out till after QF.

In short its just total chaos. will be interesting to see if half the things that HIAPL have put into their master plan actually happen (aerobridges being the main one, and dual runways)
