Normally I wouldn't be so excited by this news, but honestly, Tassie needs as many direct flights to destinations as possible at the moment, particularly as our main transit airport, Melbourne, is a no go.

I included the full screenshot with the comments because it looks like ABC Hobart and Canberra are having a bit of a spat 😂

Will Tasmania open the border by then.
Who knows. The premier is playing it safe. Restrictions for essential workers have loosened, but the re-opening to non-essential travellers keep getting pushed back again and again.

He's not playing it safe, he's playing the politics because his CHO has given a risk assessment to him that is so low in risk you need 5 decimal points to reveal it

Does Link Airways know something we don't about the reopening of Tasmania's border?

Either way, good to see more flights from CBR! We've lost all of our international routes, but now have BNK, MCY, OOL (on QF) and now this.

End of November has been the target for a few months now and I think ACT, WA, SA, NT are being brought forward to end of October. Can’t be to careful y’know? 🙄

Exactly. He’s playing it politically safe. The bulk of Tasmanians support his approach and his popularity levels have skyrocketed. Of course, it can’t stay that way. It’s one thing to close over winter and spring, but closed borders over summer will cripple us. I hope these flights go ahead as planned.

The cutbacks to some wage subsidy programs might focus the premiers mind too.

They have said it's dependent on border openings. That'll end up being one of the longer prop flights in Australia, probably close to 2 hours, and they'll be using a SAAB.

Good news for AFF #14 :) But Link Airways?

I was looking at flights from BNE-OAG (via TMW & DBO) and BNE-TMW the other day, they were the same prices as this. Maybe they just price all they're flights the same so they know how much money they'll make?!

Anyone want to take bets on how long it'll take QF capacity dump this?

Personally I can't see them doing it, but you never know. Qantas never flew this route even before covid, although VA did for a while (and also CBR-TSV).

I wonder how long until CBR-DRW is reinstated? Qantas did once fly that route for a little while.

Unlikely
Qantas could get sneaky and add a CBR-MEL-HBA on a717 at competitive pricing but direct unlikely, option for next summer though.
