Anyone else flying to NZ on the 10th for the 12.01am 11th Dec movie release of the Hobbit?

Or more importantly, anyone else got an annoying indulged geek husband who wanted to see the Hobbit on opening day and before his friend in the US got to see it? (unlike last year).

I found the hobbit movies really boring. I think I nodded off in the second one. Probably won't bother with the third unless it pops up on a flight sometime.

Bah humbug.

Although I will say I am not looking forward to the rumoured 45min final battle scene.

The first one required endurance. No 2 was better .... but that could have been an illusion caused by the overwhelming feeling of warmth provided by imax Montreal in early January.

Must say, it was a very fun trip and sad to see the end of an era.

Lots of elves and hobbits at the cinema for the 12.01am session and behold, the $13 sword straw! Which some of our friends are very jealous of as not found in other cinemas yet.

Will say Immigration separated my husband and I and asked me twice why we were visiting NZ.

Apparently, "We are here for a rugby game" (as said in August) is perfectly acceptable but "We are here to see a movie" makes them question you twice.

Did you use Australian passport ? I thought immigration there was easy going.

Was thinking of seeing it while in NZ the past few weeks but the tickets were so expensive we didn't. With the dollar on parity it wasn't worth it. Now back here we can see it for $8 at our local. Maybe $10 in 3D. I don't particularly like the way it's been overdone but have to finish what we started.

I'm more interested in seeing The Silmarillion brought to life. That won't happen while Christopher Tolkien is alive of course.

Now that would be interesting. :)
