So I was a bit nervous reading online reviews prior to my stay here, but it was a solid £50 cheaper per night than the alternative central London IHG options and included breakfast.
The duty manager was pleased to see my IHG Amb plat card, but then was apologetic that the hotel "really needs refurbishment. But they are restricted because of a heritage listing"! He explained it was the "second ever" HIX (the first he told me was in Dublin). No idea if that's accurate or not!
So I'm the end it lived up to my low expectations.
I had a rear-facing room that was nice and quiet. Tiny (it is an Express I guess). But quiet with small tv with massive channel selection, decent sized bathroom, comfortable bed.
Breakfast room on lower ground was too hot and tiny (it's not a huge hotel I guess), but became very noisy when even 1/3 full.
Food selection wasn't great (compared to other HIXs I've stayed in eg. Stuttgart and Berlin).
But the asset is location - 3min walk to Pimlico, 10min walk to Victoria. Both do-able with suitcase in tow. Easy to get around the city from there and staff were very friendly.
I think I ended up prepaying at ~£125/nt which again was a solid £50/nt cheaper than other IHG options.
I'd certainly stay there again on my own, but if travelling with mrsdoc (and second suitcase!) I'd probably pay the extra and stay somewhere better. But if travelling solo it's a good option.
There's a corner store and off-licence between Pimlico tube and hotel, and there's tons of restaurant options around.
So if you just want a bed and a basic stay, it's a good option given the relative prici
