Thinking through my lounge access options for a one day layover in HK. I will arrive on CX from Australia about 7:30am. I will depart on CX about 6pm. I'm QF Gold.

I was hoping to get some lounge access in the morning before heading into the city appointments.

The Plaza Premium lounge is one paid option. Is it possible to access any of the airside lounges in the morning and then exit the airport for the day?

The problem is that to get to the air side lounges you need to go through the transfer desk using your next BP as proof of upcoming travel.

Then to get land side from the lounge, the lounge staff will need to call the appropriate security to escort you to immigration etc. Apparently they get quite narky about this and can take hours to arrive and then ask you some pointed questions about your travel plans etc.

Basically, more trouble than it's worth. Especially with the various issues HKG is under going at the moment.

Personally i’d forget going to a lounge on arrival and just head into town for the day before heading back to airport. It’s more hassle than it’s worth to transfer, go to lounge, get back out of security etc.

Thanks Hvr & docjames I was starting to think that it is too hard. I was thinking it was going to be similar to Changi. Then as the travel is next week I was starting to mentally think through the process and realised it was going to be hard. Might just dump my cabin bag at left luggage.

Another option is to book dayroom at one of the hotels.
I’ve booked Garden Inn ($550 HKD) on recent long layover

An option is a room by the hour at the Airport hotel (the Regal) if that works for you.

Edit : not much use to you as at the departures area .... There is this, (and it has a discount if bkg before Monday). Not sure if it works for you. Let us know if you do what you think of it.

Transit Resting Lounge (Refreshhh by Aerotel) is located at Level 6, Departures Level, Terminal 1, Hong Kong International Airport (near Gate 35), after customs and immigration.

I would run through customs and jump on a train for central and transfer to causeway bay. walk back to central through the side roads. Have an awesome street lunch, catch a 50c ferry to Kowloon , walk the markets and catch a train back to the airport at 3pm.
