I'm currently sitting in the CX Wing F lounge ahead of CX101.
The gate is posted as gate 5, which is of course next to the QF lounge.
The flight is due to board not long after the QF site quotes the lounge as closing.

Is it worth moving from The Wing to QF?

Another topic in relation to this, i have booked my dad in J from Hong Kong to Rome on finnair. What would be the optimal business suite to enter for him. I am unfamiliar with HK :)

sure, given the gate location. Plus if you've had your fill of the Champagne bar, food and a cabana(if you were able to get one!) then why not swing by?

I've normally gone to the nearest lounge to the gate, and if the gate wasn't known to go to the Wing. Not as easy now that 2 of the CX lounges have been closed.

I moved to the QF lounge. Took a while to find it. I've only been in here once before after they refurbished it into the "Qantas Hong Kong Lounge" 5ish years ago.
More power outlets then in the CX lounge, not as much food options this close to closing.

Flying J out of HK how early can you check in, I know changi has early check in (earlier than 3 hours) but does HK have early check in? trying to plan my fathers trip and how early he can hit the qantas lounge

Which airline? CX probably allows early checkin. Others probably have standard 3 to 4 hrs prior.

Of course it is. Flying business on a oneworld airline. You can use the Qantas lounge, provided it is open.
In OPs case a QF Classic Reward on AY Business class definitely includes lounge access. There are some unbundled AY J fares that don’t include lounge access but we can save that for another thread….

Meanwhile, AY 100 departs HKG around 08:30pm and the QF lounge is open 07:30am to 11pm. So good to go.

The couple of times I’ve flown in / out of HKG with AY, they’ve invariable used gates the QF side of the Wing. Which is convenient to the QF lounge.

Oh, and of course the CX Wing and Pier J lounges are in play also if the plane departs from a gate near those.

I am flying to Hong Kong with a CX flight number in economy, I am a bronze member but have Qantas Club. Do you think it might be possible for me to go into any lounges?

Welcome to AFF, Epark1501, and happy travels!

In your case, sorry but it'll be the public area only this time around. You could access a lounge when departing from Australia on QF or EK marketed flights or on JQ. You can find the lounge access rules here.

Of course, you can look up lounges you might be able to access via a credit card, lounge pass (Priority Pass, etc) or pay your way in.

We are set to transit through HKG in two weeks, flying in with Qantas Y (landing at 1755) and out with Finnair Y (deparing at 2035) with a 2hr40 min layover in HKG. I have Qantas Gold, so looking to visit the Cathay Pacific lounge - The Pier in HKG for shower and champagne. From what I have read its the best business lounge in HKG and possibily the world so keen to try it. My question is, would we have enough time to go to the lounge, shower, eat, drink and make it to the Finnair boarding gate? The default is the Qantas lounge which is closer to the gate ( which is apparantly one of QF‘s best lounges). Not sure how busy HKG is at the time, as Dubai can get hectic at certain times. Any advice would be apprecited.

There are reports here that the QF Lounge is now better than the CX J lounges. But I would head to the closest lounge to boarding gate (which could well be the QF lounge).

Been through HKG multiple times in recent months.
I really struggled to see how the QF lounge could be considered better than any of the CX offering. Yes. It’s far better than the J lounges in Australia. But I still wouldn’t call it better than CX.
If you haven’t been to the Pier before, I’d head there first to check it out. It’s expansive and well worth visiting to give your OW a workout. Depending on your next boarding gate, you’ll need to walk back to the other end of the airport because the tram goes one-way only. The walk can take 10-20min. I’ve worked up a sweat from walking in the past.
If you don’t want to go to Gate 63’s end (the pier), then I’d probably suggest The Deck over The Wing. The Deck has showers. The Wing doesn’t.
The Deck is right next to the QF lounge. BUT accessing them are through very different entries.
The Deck: from the escalator next to the Starbucks.
QF lounge: you gotta head upstairs first (same level as the security) and turn around. It’s got signage, but also kinda hidden. My theory is if the QF lounge and the Deck has the same entry point, most will just walk across from QF to the Deck.

I always like having a couple of coughtails at the QF HKG lounge first, food is excellent too and the yum cha trolley is great. It’s straight after security so easy to get to.

Views are nice too, being higher than some of the other lounges. Showers are nice.

Then if you want I’d head to a CX lounge and try the different food. I don’t find the staff as friendly in the CX lounges (who can blame them) but I guess that doesn’t really matter. Pier has some great food.
