Just wondering if Hilton still gives you hotel benefits, status benefits and points accrual if your booking is made through either Amex travel or the FHR program?

Interesting question.

I have never booked a hotel where I have some status, through AMEX travel. However, if I should (for a Hilton Hotel), how would I add my HHonors details to the booking in order to try for the benefits. My understanding is that I need to book direct with HHonors for this.

I guess at check-in you can get them to associate your HH number with the booking. Or call the hotel prior? Not really sure.

I also notice the Amex rates are much higher than if I book directly. I'm just keen to make use of the $700 travel credit I have.

Yes, the higher AMEX rates have always put me off making a booking.

I just rang to find out of they can improve on their advertised rate. Answer is no. So for this trip to Auckland, its a moot point. I'll save about $100/night for a better room if I just book directly with the hotel.

Still interested to know in general about hotel benefits though.

We are currently overseas, we booked the Hilton through Qantas (which unfortunately uses Expedia we have been advised) - one hilton put our diamond status against the booking at check in and all benefits given, the other said you didn't book direct and gave nothing. Would never book anything but direct to guarantee the benefits.

The one that gave you the benefits, did you also accrue points?

I can't find the post but someone was able to book via amex for HH and get benefits.

Why don't you use the credit on airline tickets? Get more sc at least if its higher priced.

I think they called up and told AMEX to book direct.

That's probably what I'll do in future. At the moment have a bunch of QF vouchers to use up.

The Amex booking system now allows you to input your membership number. In my experience (Hilton, Starwood, and InterContinental) that it flows through to the property and I've had no issues earning and getting status benefits too.

For example, here's one booking of mine that's showing on the SPG site:

According to my fiance, she has made our last two Hilton bookings through the Hilton site using the AMEX code for a discounted rate. The first stay we received points, the second we have not and I have just opened a case up with Hilton regarding this. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

what amex code?

what amex code?

Sorry not code but a booking through Hilton Hotel Deals that sends you to the Hilton site with the AMEX rate activated. I have just heard back from the Diamond desk and they are trying to tell me that I have booked through a third party and will not be credited a stay, nor points. I am truly baffled. My first stay through this promotion was credited without issue. My second stay (I did book two rooms) is not being credited. I will keep pushing for a resolution to this and hope for the best.

I've got a couple of bookings using that. It re-directs you to book through the Hilton site. I cannot see how they could possibly justify not giving points etc. It's pretty much the same as when you book with CashRewards. Redirects you to the Hilton site. Never had a problem with points posting for those stays.

Just received another email. They now agree that I booked through the Hilton site but state that I am not eligible for a stay credit or points. The first email arrived with 2K courtesy points, this latest has arrived with 3K points. This still falls short of the 6.5K that I received when I booked and stayed in only one room earlier in June using the same promo. I can only think that there was a system error due to booking two rooms in one booking. This has happened to me previously but that time I had no issue chasing up the missing points (no promo that time).
