So, yesterday I did a search for a specific hotel to book for an upcoming holiday, got a pretty good price of $534 for 3 nights. Today I go to do the same search again and the price is $799

I am using a different computer, a different web browser, no cookies, private browsing enabled to make sure I do the same search without a trace. So why is the price $250 more today than yesterday? Nothing has changed and its not due until November so its not like its around the corner.

I just dont get it. I would understand if I used the same browser/computer etc, but I am not. Done that mistake once already and wont go own that road again. I do have screen shots, but that might not help anyway.

Anyone clever that can shed some light on the situation? :D

Limited number of rooms at that price and it has sold out

There is something on near those dates and the hotel just clued onto it and have put up prices

Things go up and down all the time

If you don't have a confirmed booked screen shots probably will not help you

Sometimes prices change based on when the sale is occuring i.e. prices rise when people typically book, and fall when bookings are low to gather more interest. Being that far out, is there a major event on in the place at that time? if not maybe wait it out a week or 2 and see what happens, I have had it happen to me when prices rise for a few weeks/month then fall back down.

Nothing special at that date.. just another holiday outside of school holidays.

Learnt my lesson this time, book the room first, then send in the claim... I will just keep an eye on it and see what happens. Got plenty of time before I have to go and I have heaps of hotels to choose from :) Im not really worried, I just like a good deal :D

Screen shots did not help, and they did not get that price on any of their searches. Next time I will just double book and cancel, easier that way.
Thanks for the help.

Assume you were looking in the same currency each time?

No, different currencies, but checking what it is in AUD.

Wait another couple days and it will probably drop again :)

Yes, I will leave it for now. Have way too many other things to do at the moment. I just saw a great deal and wanted to get a piece of it... but alas, I missed out. Next time perhaps :)

To get the bottom line comparative total price including any ++, you need to go all the way through to the book the room phase just before the adding in the cc details page.

Ensure that the currency on the comparison site is the same as on the Marriott site.

Happened to me a few times. Generally it is the selling out of a category or inventory. Happened just this year in Jan for a June booking, very unlucky.

Well, I am on my third round with them now... have a written quote with exactly the same inclusions $200 cheaper and I just emailed it to them.
if it doesnt work, there is another fantastic hotel next door that is looking good *lol*

I understand that they dont want to make it easy for you but this is a bit ridiculous. They should have a way to enclose files to support the claim when sending it in, instead of being knocked back because they dont have my files. But that comes back to the not make it easy thing, a great way to save money.

I had a booking like this. One was because it didn't include fee's and taxes where as the next time it did.

I hope your "private" searches haven't increased the demand for the hotel!

I know it sounds crazy but I have seen this before. Search for a hotel today and get one price and search again tomorrow and price goes up. Wait a few days and the price usually drops again.

Might have been lucky in the end. After this weeks stay I realized that the one I tried to book might have been a bit too far out of the way. So I am going to skip it all and all and just stay at one of my favourite hotels instead. At least I know what I am getting and I know I like it.
