Yes.. very interested to hear the answer to this question..
The room looks the same as the one we stayed in.. Park Balcony King...
Certainly the hotel is beautiful... it was the service I was initially disappointed with.. (they did rectify it with feedback).
Will wait to hear (patiently ;) ) what sefty thought :)

It was a 'Balcony Twin'.¹

The room was quite well appointed, albeit having two small single beds (smaller than normal for such a hotel).

The place was obviously of a renovated "old school" design; I can imagine what it looked like in the 30's.

On check-in the staff was more concerned about what newspaper I wanted. I had to prompt them for any WoH benefits - they eventually gave me a little card detailing club times etc..

Once prompted, no problem. (4pm checkout, lounge access, internet, breakfast - lounge only.)

I did not ask about upcharge for full breakky; it was fine in lounge with hot options (scrambled eggs, mini sausages, roasted tomatoes) along with standard continental.

Lounge was small, but not crowded that evening - I had a chat with the staff, they had only expected 26 guests - perhaps once or thrice a year they would allocate timed lounge "sittings".

Lounge food pretty standard, crudites, dips, cheese, party pies, spinach pastry rolls (like mini sausage rolls), charcuterie, beers, sprits, cheap wines.

My room was adjacent to the "Presidential Suite" - there was a locked door (double?) in the room providing direct access to the suite.

Someone was holding a dinner party in the p-suite with, perhaps 10 guests; I could hear them softly though the door. That was fine by me until shortly before midnight when they ramped up karaoke or something. It was way too noisy and I had to call to complain. The noise stopped abruptly approx. 12:25am after which I slept soundly.

Re: The view from my "office"

Nice hotel, I used to stay there a lot back in the late 90's.

Still have "fond" memories of being charged $60 for a shot of JW blue in the hotel bar

Re: The view from my "office"

Whilst ever it's been a Hyatt I've never seen it called the Hotel Canberra.
The rellos I dined with on Saturday night know it as "Hotel Canberra", there some surprise when I told them it was a hyatt.

Anyway, it is of little consequence.

Re: The view from my "office"

Hotel Canberra was its original name, before Hyatt had even heard of Australia.

Re: The view from my "office"

I often stay at this hotel and I must say that I find the dining options to be really below par for a hotel of this quality.

It's an interesting point. I think there's just the tea lounge and the main restaurant which is probably a bit lacking for a Park.

Yes, it is pretty ordinary. Went there for drinks recently and supposedly there was a tapas type menu available but it was pretty poor with some miserable dips etc. Certainly not good bar offerings at all.
It used to have a so called fine dining restaurant - The Oak Room - but it has long gone to make way for event space. Pity.
The last few times I've been there (either for afternoon tea or a drink) the service has been decidedly ordinary. Next time we go out for drinks (a small group of us) we will probably go to the Kurrajong to see how that is. Have only been there once or twice for a coffee so far.
I remember the Hyatt being called Hotel Canberra but locally it's known as The Hyatt these days.
