Hotel in Seoul, Korea?

My boss is off to Korea for a conference in June and it's my job to book a "cheap" hotel for two nights so he can have a day of sightseeing before heading back to Aus. I've never been anywhere near Korea so I've got no idea about the districts etc...can anyone offer any suggestions?

The Westin Chosun rates pretty well on Tripadvisor and its very centrally located. Close to department stores, restaurants, bars and nightlife.

Your guess is as good as mine! He's only been my boss for a week...but I gather he likes to keep things under $200 a night

Seoul is a huge and very busy city. It would help if your boss knew what he wanted to do or where he wanted to be. Each time I've been I've stayed somewhere different as the traffic is awful and I find it best to stay near where I need to be for business. That said, from memory its not the cheapest place for hotels so for under $200 you will only get a 3-4 star place, no 5 star. I suggest using tripadvisor for some guidance.

On recent visits I have stayed at Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas, great comfort and service. I recommend you consider location very carefully, this capital city is larger than many others, its not a great place for walking point to point. In my experience an umbrella might be a useful piece of kit too.

As mentioned above the Westin Chosun is fine. I usually stay at the Lotte.

Last time I stayed at Ibis Seoul Myeong-dong. It is "cheap" and very convenient to all the shops! Also it ranks top 10 in all Seoul hotels in Tripadvisor!

If you are looking at A$250++ the Westin Chosun and the Lotte are great. Lotte has two wings..the modern wing is more pricey than the older wing. If you looking just a place to stay and look around then the Ibis in Myeongdong is very good. They are all within 50 metres of each other and very central for first timer/ safety/ sightseeing options/ nightlife etc.

I'm attending a conference at the COEX and wondered which of the two IC's there are better?
Doesn't appear much to choose between them on Trip Advisor.

I have never stayed in that part of Seoul but have heard from a few colleagues that the IC-Coex is supposed to be good but bear in mind that it is a hotel that caters to conference guests.
