Anyone catch the news article on CH7 about how easy it is to open a room at a hotel with the mag strip keys, first I have heard of it!

Missed the news tonight sorry though I'll just have a look and see if the Tivo is on Ch7 in which case I can run back 30 min.

They put the key in then held the mobile to the lock and it opened supposedly, interestingly the ASIAL spokeperson said it was old technology and well known, I wonder how many visitors to the Asial show at the start of Sept will check it out for themselves.

Yep I saw it :)

Looking forward to giving it a go! On my own room of course or a colleagues with them present!

Saw the article. Didn't work on my door in the hotel I'm staying at.

I suspect it's certain models of door locks affected. Couldn't find any web references when I quickly checked, but am relatively confident it isn't a hoax.

I have now seen the item and will be interested to try it next week when we are at the Hilton South Wharf.

This is why I always use the secondary locks when in rooms and try not to leave anything of great value in the rooms when away.

The only hotel that I know and recall that does not have secondary locks is the HI in Townsville.

Could be wrong but Getaway had a special on the Novotel at Homebush, never been there but the check in desk looked like that featured on the story!
