I'm going to Sydney early April to visit with friends coming from England. I'm only familiar with the Hilton hotel.

i've read the review for their hotel of choice The York by Swiss-Belhotel. The comments on TripAdvisor are mixed.

The Hilton is expensive, as usual. Any suggestions to hotels in York area. Not being familiar with the CBD, I'm not sure where to look. TIA

Its in the northern part of the cbd.

Closest would be Travelodge and amora, the Menzies (if it hasn't closed by then), Four Seasons and Shangrila. Not far from new Hyatt Regency.

Search for York Hotel on Google Maps. X out and search for hotels and put in your dates.

I know it is not answering your question but the area around the Hilton is a bit of a dead zone after hours and transport is not great. We never stay there these days. Maybe you should nudge your friends towards the north or south ends of the city. North is a bit more expensive. South is cheaper and has very good access to transport and restaurants and bars.

Swissotel Sydney - 68 Market Street would be my recommendation.
