How often do you go to a hotel and attempt to check-in, the hotel hands you a pre-printed registration card ... and it is completely wrong?

Had this recently. Checked in, and the hotel gave me a registration card for someone who lives ~15km away from me. Our first initial matched, our surname matched. My loyalty card number was on the registration. The details of the stay were ok and my prepayment registered.

This happens to me occasionally. Do others have this happen as well?

Not really. Recently the Mercure SYD could not find my booking when I checked in - somehow it had gone in under a different name.

Thank goodness I had a hard copy of the booking email/receipt.

Never had that one. I have had incorrect company details though...

Basically the previous company I worked for had "Aussie" in its name. I've lost count the number of hotels that very helpfully corrected the name to "Aussie Home Loans".

Very annoying as it then required getting it corrected at reception rather than a 10 second check out process.

Never had that, although hotels do seem to hold onto your old details for quite a long time. Even new contact details in the booking seem to get replaced by whatever I used the first time I stayed there.

Almost every bloody time. I have a very common name.

Honestly, I've given up correcting them as long as the name and company name is correct. Whatever, just give me a room key.

Never happened to me but I guess it depends on how common your name is- mine is not and in return rather causes issues with miss-spellings at other times.

What I do have noticed though on several occasions is that many hotels seem to never really upgrade their back office information, no matter how you correct them and an old address from years past ends up on their files again and again. Don't really care- would rather not receive annoying Xmas deals and special offers from them in the mail anyway, it's bad enough via email!

I had the opposite to that in a Novotel in HK. The name matched, and the membership card matched, but that was about it. The had me down as an American as well, which I admit, I kind of sound like one. It also starts with an A and ends with an N, just like how it is in "Australian".

Perhaps I could have a guess myself too... is this an Accor group thing?

Luckily my name is not so common.

And to be honest I do not remember the last time I actually checked any details on a hotel registration form. I just sign and away I go. Perhaps it is not a good thing but so far so good.

Our old TA was hopeless and always used another persons profile to book hotels for some reason (same name as me).

Huge plus was that they were a big time CEO and traveller and I always got upgraded and free food etc. Then I'd call the hotel program and have the points reversed and put back into mine ;)

Out of curiosity, which chain (or independent) does this happen at most often?

Got a very nice upgrade - from rock bottom Expedia sale price to a suite - recently. It was in room check in too; when the clerk went away to check I quickly jumped on the beds, used the bathroom and generally trashed, but nicely the room. Very grudgingly allowed me to stay in the room. It was sooo nice, I really didn't want to leave and get outside and explore.

Hilton, Accor, ICH. I think because I use my PO Box for most hotel bookings they often try and match me back to a residential address (As a general rule I refuse to use my residential address on a hotel booking).

You would think though that as a loyalty scheme member, using the Frequent Traveller ID would provide all the information they require....

Cool. :)

I've never heard of this.
