We are flying to Bali at the end of the month, my Significant Other has never earn't a QFF point in her life before but I have just signed her up. We are both travelling on the one PNR, I know how to apply to upgrade myself but how do I apply to upgrade her given that she has no points? (happy to use my points for this).

And, how long before the flight do they start sending out the bid for upgrades emails?

Just proceed to upgrade yourself as normal. Assuming your significant other's FF number is linked to the booking against her name now and you're both on the same PNR, she will also appear on the upgrade page and you'll have to apply to upgrade the both of you at once.

(Can't upgrade one and and not the other without splitting the booking).

Your upgrade request will include all passengers in your booking who are eligible family members (which includes your partner).

Within 7 days of your scheduled flight departure you may be emailed an invitation to make an offer to upgrade. Or you can check to see if your booking is eligible here.

In your QFF account, My Bookings>Upgrade. You just request an upgrade for all pax on the same PNR.

Hopefully you are on the one PNR..if so go into your bookings and apply for the upgrade and it really does not matter on her status or points. Just make sure you have enough points to cover both of you if the upgrade comes through.

Cheers @eminere - I guess the system automatically knows to take the points for her upgrade out of my account because she has no points?

As you are logging into your account, the QFF points for any upgrade approval will come from your balance. It won‘t matter how many points a fellow-traveller has.

OK cheers - and thanks to everyone for explaining how it all works - I was clueless on this bit of it all! Currently 9 spare J seats on the flight...

The person requesting the points upgrade is the person whose account the points will be deducted from, should the upgrade request be successful.

Upgrades will be considered on a first come, first served, basis (higher QFF status having priority, from memory). Best to request sooner rather than later seeing as how you are flying this month.
