Yes compensation was paid in line with Marriott Bonvoy policy. They had a form to complete for this, so I expect this wasn't the first time this has happened.
The lounge offer is great, enjoyed way too many coughtails and a couple of afternoon teas, but the hotel itself not quite right. We stayed in the Westin not so long back, prefer the hotel, room, pool and (complementary) sauna/jacuzzi facilities there, although the lounge offer is fairly basic in comparison (particularly the beverages). Combine the JW lounge offer with the Westin hotel and it would be great.
Still it was nice to go there for 26 hrs and have a retreat without having to deal with the hassle of airport, flights, transfers etc just to use the free night certificate somewhere else like Bali or Bangkok
