Hi all,

Yesterday I booked a flight to Tallinn, Estonia with Finnair. I wanted to book with Qantas (as I'd get maybe 6000 extra FF points but the same number of SCs). However, they wouldn't let me book through to Tallinn online (Only Helsinki) and the fare on sale was $1880 without the extra leg vs $1700 with Finnair WITH the extra leg. How is it that I'm flying on exactly the same flights (ok, an AY code but same flight) and sitting in exactly the same seat but Qantas want an extra $180 with two less flights (Helsinki to Tallinn return)? Given I'm only losing about $60 in QFF points it didn't make sense to pay extra for the points.

I understand they're a different airline and it's a code-share flight etc etc etc..but this just doesn't really make sense to me. I want to book with Qantas to earn extra points but they're just pricing themselves out!

The QFF program only seems to work if you're booking fully-flex or business class fares. Anyone who is actually sensible with their airfare purchases (private consumers) and buys fares at a good price get nothing. I have made about twice as many points from credit card sign on bonuses even though I only spend maybe $1k on cards each month than I have flying once a month domestically and 3 times a year internationally. I shouldn't even start on the scam that is regional mining flights. It sometimes costs as much to fly to Melbourne from Regional WA return as it does to fly to London. Oh well.. /RANT

Qantas isn't the only airline with this anomaly.

There are many carriers who sell A-B-C cheaper than they sell A-B. Different markets, different pricing.

And let's not get started on purchasing airfares overseas as opposed to purchasing them in Australia.

You could also ask the question as to why on the same flights you would earn 6000 points more with Qantas flight numbers. Anyway think you will find the reason Qantas is higher is due to the nature of the codeshare agreement they have with Finnair. Maybe Finnair charges them more for those seats than they provide themselves.

I value 6,000 points at around, conservatively, $120-$150 .... and worth more if I push hard enough ;)

Have a great time in Tallinn; I very much enjoyed my quick visit last year! There is an awesome value for money restaurant that serves pretty good food, it's called Von Krahli and its a 5 minutes walk from the town square in the old city. Rated #1 on Tripadvisor and I would pretty much agree to that.
