As a platinum flyer with Virgin I can select any seat during/after making a booking on the flight however as my mother is only a red flyer, it's now 48 hours before departure and the seat map has only opened up until row 5.

Will the seat map open up even more before departure? As it's only a <50 minute flight, they don't operate the business class but the seats can still be selected and that's what I'm aiming to get for her (a more comfy seat :P )

Thanks :)

Would love to know the answer to this too as a solo traveller, no status. I usually fly QF where seats open up at T-80; is there an equivalent for VA?

Hope it worked out for you, what a nice person you must be. One lucky mum there :)

Hi all,

Just to give a quick update, the seat map only opened up to row 5 online but when I did a dummy booking ALL rows with spare seats were showing, even 2D/F.

So I gave velocity a quick call and got it sorted over the phone.

They mentioned that the seat map opens fully for all passengers 48 hours before departure but clearly that wasn't the case with that one booking.

She loved the bigger seat!

Most seats are opened up at T-48, but not all seats. As a Plat, any seat is fair game (from the time of booking and of course at T-48), however, golds and below sometimes don't see rows 1, 2 (on all Y 738 flights) and rows 3 and 4 online at T-48.

So no, not all seats open up, but most do. Later on at T-24 and onwards, maybe row 3 and 4 open up to gold and maybe silver members.

I'm well aware of that however, when I did a dummy booking as a non-member it showed all seats as available which should have been the same case for the existing booking as confirmed by the GCC for that flight. Nevertheless got the seats I wanted to grab for that other booking :)

Oh I see, how bizarre!!
