Hi guys,

I'm a new member of the forum (1st post).

Just a quick question... I managed to achieve Gold status for the first time ever in mid March (having been silver for a year or two previously), and still haven't received anything from Qantas (no new card and I've never received any of the new tags in silver or gold)
Is this normal?? Does it normally take a few months (from memory my silver package came within 2-3weeks).

Cheers

Congratulations on achieving SG level and welcome to AFF.

There have been a few posts here recently about it taking awhile to get the NGCI tags. Doesn't hurt to ring them and ask and hopefully it wont take too long to arrive.

Welcome to AFF robbo10!

There are a number of threads on AFF asking the same question. The answer?

Back when tings were normal it would take ~10 days for the new kit to arrive.

Since the Next Generation roll-out everything has appeared to grind to a halt.

I re-qualified Platinum end of March and have still not received the new card. No big deal as my anniversary is not until the end of this month.

I just called them on this very issue - got put through to the premium desk, who said that it's normally 10-15 business days (i.e. three weeks), only they're experiencing delays at the moment, and it's more like five to six weeks.

Apparently. I qualified at the beginning of April, no sign of kit. Which is why I called them.

I have been calling them for a about 4 months to get a NGCI pack (have been Gold for 4 years) and they keep on saying that it will be there in 3 to 4 weeks... Stopped calling a while back if it comes it comes.

Qualified PS, SG & WP in early to mid March.

PS pack arrived 2 days ago.

SG & WP packs arrived today.

It might be worth adding for the OP that your old card will still work, it just wont be the shiny gold colour, and occasionbally you might need the QF staff to look up the computer if there's a Gold entitlement that they reject just looking at your card.

I qualified for Gold on 7 March and my pack arrived today, just over 8 weeks later :D

They have really cheapened the packaging from the original mail-out.

Or was the original NGCI packaging just for those who were being 'upgraded' to the new Q Bag Tags and RFID FF cards?

I do recall seeing SG and have a WP pack (with the band around them that fold out horizontally with a Q tag on each side). They were actually quite nice (still have mine)!

While the packaging looks cheapened, from what I can see it actually looks nice. The old packaging was nice too, but very gimmicky.

Yes but with the constant 'enhancement's us WP's will cling to anything we can ;)

The artwork on the new packaging is nice, but the paper stock feels kind of cheap (doesn't particularly bother me though).

I bet they're saving a fortune in postage with the smaller/lighter packaging. Kind of silly that they sent me 3 packs in 2 days.

I qualified for WP for the first time some time in early March, my anniversary being end of march.

New WP card and bag tags finally arrived two days ago :)

I must be lucky - I qualified for SG on April 8th and received card & package on May 6th. The packaging has changed.

I requalified for gold last year, a couple of weeks after I got the new bag tags.

My new gold card with the correct expiry date arrived last Friday.

Hahaha! sorry to laugh, but im in the same boat as you. 8 consecutive years as SG, and a recent re-qualification making it 9 years and im still waiting since January!
I have written to the head of Loyalty Operations, explaining my extreme displeasure but have given up calling the FF service centre.

Excerpt from email received 11 March 2011, still haven't received
the tags, requalified Gold recently, will wait and see if they turn
up with the new card.

Next Generation Check-in, a new, intuitive check-in experience is now available in Melbourne, Sydney (T3) and Perth domestic airports, with more domestic ports to follow in 2011.

Eventhough I promised myself not to call again I couldn't resist and did call them again today (last time was about 8 weeks ago so)... guess what... "Sorry you have not received one yet mr OzMille. Unfortunately we can not see when you will get yours but I hope we will send one out in the next 4 to 5 weeks

I will not be calling them again regarding this. In my written complaint I advised Mr Golkani that the new kits were rolled out in October 2010 and I would have thought that existing eligible members ought to have been issued with them FIRST, in conjunction with those members upgrading to a valid status. I do not in any way find it acceptable that they are only issuing them to members as they requalify. I was SG then (as i am for this year) and should have been able to use NGCI as of when it was brought online. to be kept waiting 7 months is beyond outrageous. Even worse is that i received an emil on 11 march asking that I confirm my mailing details so that the kit could be sent. STILL WAITING. 5 or so phone calls later, STILL WAITING. Re-qualified a month ago, STILL WAITING. The FF service centre took the liberty of sending me out a "replacement" card with the new expiration date but alas, no luggage tags. How much do they actually think "loyal" customers are going to tolerate? I have made it perfectly clear to Mr Golkani, that this rollout has been handled appallingly and that without some gesture of goodwill i will not hesitate to move my business elsewhere. I also took the liberty of returning my new "replacement" FF card to him so that he is aware of my displeasure. I know im not that important in the greater scheme of things, but 9 years of consecutive SG is nothing to be sneezed at and if they think I will tolerate being treated like this, then they couldn't be more WRONG!

FINALLY! the NGCI kit arrived yesterday! About bloody time too.

Going off on a slight tangent.....

Please let me know if i'm being pedantic, and do I know that the kits are preprinted and not specifically addressed to me, but some text in the kit has really wee'd me off. 2 Examples are:

"to thank you for all the flying you have done with QF, JQ and OW we're "delighted" to extend your SG membership. Inside you'll find your new Gold card which can be used with your complimentary Q bag tags for a faster, smarter check in experience"

and

"Preferential access, when available to selected classic award seats"

The things hat irk me no end are the fact that, I think, they should have thanked me for all the flying I have done in the preceding 8 years by sending me out the kit when it became available and not 2 months after I re-qualified for SG. I have not been able to take advantage of this faster, smarter checkin experience for 7 or so months, despite being eligible to do so. And secondly, preferential access to classic award seats? who are they kidding? they have now made the same benefit available to silver members, and without sounding elitist, are bronze members really "frequent" flyers? I would think they are merely "members", given that they fly so infrequently so as to be unable to get off the bottom rung.
thoughts?
