How long to wait before applying for an upgraded card?

Hi all,

I did an admittedly quick search and couldn't find anything specific, so apologies if this has been covered in depth before.

I applied and was approved for my current 2 credit cards in August and September 2012 - first was the corporate affiliate Amex Gold credit card (first credit card application) and the following month was the Citibank Platinum Rewards card.

Since these previous applications, I've moved onto a higher pay scale at work and the wife has entered full time employment. I am interested in upgrading my Amex Gold credit card to the Corporate platinum edge card, so that I can take advantage of the free flight as well as supermarket and petrol bonus points.

My question is: is it too soon to apply for an upgrade of the gold credit card to the platinum edge in terms of credit file and risk of rejection? Would it more wise to wait until an arbitrary 6 month mark or longer? I'm keen to get it sooner rather than later as we have a decent spend at supermarkets and on fuel, but obviously don't want to get rejected for the sake of being too impatient.

Thanks for any help!

If you can back it up I would apply and see what happens

Amex can be funny about multiple applications sometimes, as long as its more than 6 months since your last application then they should be ok with it. Any less than 6 months is a no no really. If they knock you back it can be very difficult to get them to approve it in the future.
