we know that the classic award system is a scam and there is only 2 seats of each flight but what about Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award, how many are available on each flight, are they unlimited?

And i know for a fact there are more than 2 seats under the classic award scheme.
ASA's are unlimited as it's 'Any Seat'

Not sure how you worked that out, I think you're wrong.

Well actually there are not only 2 seats available on a flight under Classic Awards.
So to call it a scam is totally incorrect.
And under Any Seat Awards it is as it says.
I note that most of your posts so far are critical of Qantas or ill informed.
How about posting something of value next time?

I will let you redeem as many seats as you want so long as you are happy to pay 1M points per 1000 miles flown ;).

Don't know where you got that idea from. But I can easily book an award for 9 people, even as a NB (Nothing Bronze). Even if you wanted to book more people on a paid seat, you'd have to go through Group Bookings.

If the seat is available as a Classic Award, then you book the same as an ASA (generally for a slightly higher cost). Otherwise, expect the ASA to value your points at roughly 1c/point.

They're called Any Seat Awards for a reason ... You can use points for any seat on any flight. Just depends how much you're willing to pay.

I also agree that there are way more than 2 seats on classic awards on any flight. For a start there are at least 2 J seats as classic awards on every 737 flight, out of only 12 seats total, so I'm sure there are more than 2 Y award seats out of 180!

Additionally, there are also some award seats reserved specifically for Silver, Gold and Platinum FFs. So just because on the flights you've looked at there only happen to be 2 seats available at the time, doesn't mean that's all that there was or is available.

I can see a flight from MEL to SYD next week that shows ... U8 ... X9 ...

That's at least 9 economy classic award seats available and 8 in business class.

The discounted Y/JASA seats correlate to classic award booking class(es) being available.

Is that a 763 or 738? If it's a 738 then two thirds of J are available as Classic Awards so no-one could complain about that!

763, I'm booked in U on a 73H an hour later and am eyeing off additional time in the FLounge.¹

¹ "Business Special" on a JASA to SIN with a $341 'change fee', J0 on my flight so hoping to get it done at the airport.

Thanks for this post Ric_Melb. Maybe you will change your mind after reading the below.

Now just before i log a complaint against Qantas; does anyone here work for Qantas? Perhaps they could help answer this question?
How come I went to book a LAX SYD flight today, 1 was available, not 2, i needed 2, so i booked 1 and then 30 seconds later my wife booked 1 as a separate transaction.

Now all i had to do to get around this transfer the points. But why does Qantas hold flights so you can only book 1 at a time in my case? 2 were not available for this flight yet i made 2 individual bookings and it worked.

I have said it before and i will say it again, something is fishy with the Qantas awards points. ACCC here i come, qantas get your lawyers in for a briefing!!

1. What status are the two of you? That can make a difference to what you can see.

2. If someone else was looking at the same flights at the same time, that could have "locked out" the second seat, ie. making it appear that you could only see 1 seat available. If in the meantime, they cancelled what they were looking at or it timed out, then the second seat could have reappeared.

3. Additional seats can be released from time to time, it could have been a coincidence.

4. The ACCC are the competitive watchdog, and I don't see how you not being able to book 2 seats is anti-competitive. I'd in fact suggest that it's pushing you away from them toward the competition, so you might want to work out which would be the best place to complain to first. There is no Ombudsman for airlines, so maybe start with the office of fair trading...but in any case, I still don't think you have any luck and will be wasting your time and money. You can't prove here that Qantas have done anything wrong. Their T&C's are pretty clear that the number of award seats on any flight will change from time to time.

Good luck with that venture, let us know how it ends up!!!

I think on the high-demand routes there is an award seat tap that drips them out based on some arcane formula. So at T-355.666 (or whatever) there could be as few as 2 or 4 award seats released in each cabin, then further down the track there will be more released according to time or demand or a combination of both. So you grabbing the last award seat may have triggered the witches cauldron (airline seat inventory management system) to release some more.

But they would much prefer you to pay cold hard cash for your seat, or at least burn lots of points, so it's hardly surprising that they are misers with the classic awards. The ASA scheme is in fact a direct consequence of last time the ACCC had a go at them, and it gives them a very clever loophole with award availability.

So if you don't want to work very hard to get good award seats at classic prices, then I would switch your allegience to another program.

we know that...
Perhaps you should have started the post with "I believe..." instead of trying to speak for other people?

I recently booked a return ASA BNE-SYD-LAX for 5 people. I had an enquiry and phoned up and the lady asked if I would prefer to switch them to a classic. I declined as I prefer the additional points and SC.

They do say that actions speak louder than words - let us know how you go.

Kudos = TheInsider/docjames for a similar statement, above -> slow server = slow refresh tonite

vyaw2003, what status are you? If WP, then you could have called QFF and requested an additional award seat be released. Given the content of your post, this probably would have been granted.

I'm a lowly bronze, I tried to book for April 2012 a J SYD/LAX/SYD it wanted me to go via BNE!, so I tried BNE/LAX/BNE wanted me to go via SYD!!, then even though I'd selected J only it came up as domestic in J and long haul in Y, what is going on?.

Will be gold soon so maybe that will help?.

What are the ACCC going to do? And doubt you will have any grounds for QF to get the lawyers in...

Pipe dreaming...
