Just wondering, if the restuarant awards qff points, how much extra is it costing them?

I need to know to determine whether I feel bad or not for them...

The alternate question IMHO is how much they gain in extra custom by attracting customers by having the points on offer :!:

Both are completely valid questions... that need answering, I must say when I'm outside of Melbourne and Sydney I pick my restaurants off the QFF site...

+1 We now do exactly the same.

Surely it's up to the businesses themselves to make the assessment, and the consumer can take the points conscience free.

If the business isnt making a gain from the program, one would assume they'd withdraw from it.

I love being able to earn QFF points when I'm dining out! The only problem is some places don't process the QFF card, even after you've given them card at the same time as when you're paying the bill, and you kind of feel a bit bad getting them to do it after you've paid the bill.

+1 ,

I have also come across 1 restaurant "Sahni's Indian Restaurant" - Located on Glenferrie Road , Hawthorn.

They claim to be Qantas frequent flyer partner , they always take my card pretend to process it , never give me a receipt ( saying that their machine has a printing error ) and some how points never get updated

I first checked on the Qantas website a few months ago they were listed there , but now they are not - they still pretend / lie that they process the card for QFF Points --- Isn't this Fraud ???

They have also assured me that I will get points on Home Deliveries when the Qantas T&C's Clearly state

You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program to earn points. Membership and points are subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program terms and conditions. A joining fee may apply.

Restaurant list correct at the time of upload to Qantas.com. Some restaurants may have since closed or no longer offer points.

^You must show your Qantas Frequent Flyer card to the restaurant at the time of purchase in order to earn points. Points are earned on meals and beverages purchased from the restaurant only, excluding home deliveries. Points are not earned on tips or gratuities. Points from restaurants may take up to eight weeks to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. Points cannot be split between members.

Restaurant owners: To find out how you can participate in Qantas Frequent Flyer program, e-mail us.

I would be surprised if anyone else has faced similar issues !!! would be interesting to know at the same time.

FYI - I am still their customer in-spite of the above mentioned , because the I like their food.

I would guess they pay about 3-6% for the points (ie 1-2c/point) plus perhaps a setup/ongoing fee.

Surely someone here owns a restaurant, and can get the real figure!

I seem to remember that when a promotion is run by Woolworths that involves an Everyday Rewards points prize they have in the small text down the bottom the value of the prize in dollars, and that the points are stated as being valued at 4c each. So, wouldn't that mean the points are being sold to restaurants for 4c? But who knows if they have a volume discount or something like that, which surely they would with Everyday Rewards.

I probably should have done the quickest of calculations. There's no way restaurants would sign up if it cost 4c per point.

I'm sure the figure would be confidential, but I would guess in the same ballpark as Mal.

There was a thread here last year about restaurants claiming to offer points when they don't. Typically claiming the machine is broken when it isn't.

It costs them nothing when they claim that their machine is "broken" or "offline".

If the QFF setup is simlar to a leading Canadian loyalty scheme (which I suspect it is as the earn/burn is similar for members), then the cost per point to the merchant is dependant on annual sales volume (as you would expect) - $2M pa saw a rate of CAD$0.03c per point, with a minimum annual purchase and one-off set up.
