How quickly are status credits recognised to advance to Plat?

I am currently Gold, and need 85 status credits to get to Platinum. On the 11th and the 13th of January I have points expiring, so that on the 13th I end up needing 115 points.

But on the 13th I fly to LA then to Fort Lauderdale (Virgin America booked through Virgin Australia), flexi. To me that calculates as 120 credits.

But will the dates all work out? As on the 18th I loose another 20, but fly home on the 16th (US time) so should earn another 120?

I think I will make it but I have been so close so many times before I want to be sure!

Thanks

By the sounds of it, you'll reach Platinum at one point or another... Unless you call the GCC and MAYBE see if they can push things along (I don't know, never tried, never needed to), I don't see the credits from the LAX flight being issued any shorter than 24/48 hours after the flight. The VX SC might take awhile to credit, so I wouldn't bank on them coming through straight away. You probably won't hit Plat til you return home. What will skew things ofocurse also is the Time Difference Timing/Date wise. I can't see really any reason why things will become special for you in particular going from Gold to Plat., unless you flag it with the GCC - Better the Gold line than the other line too :)

I might be in the same point as you; If all goes to well, I'll have exactly 1005 SC the day SC will start expiring on mass the next day following, early May. I might myself call the GCC on day (48 hours after my flight, as it all pans out) and make sure someone recognises things before it gets messy...

Or just book another weekend trip in April... Haven't been to ADL in awhile...

Thanks Intra. I have so far managed to not do a status run, but ADL is where family is so I might have to, but hopefully will make it regardless.

Plat doesn't have much concrete that is better than Gold, but I just want it. I have been Gold for 4 years now all on the cheapest fares only. This is the first time I am doing a flexi. So it is a lot of bum in seat time and I just want it :)

85 SCs is, by some reports, within the realms of VA giving a nod and a wink to plat. Given you will be plat because of the rolling 12month expiry, I'd be asking them if they could extend a bit of the old VA hospitality to you. Heaven only knows it wasn't too long ago they were throwing SCs and status at everyone and everything, including the neighbourhood dog pack so surely a bit of logic just might prevail. If the GCC doesn't help, ask VFF here on AFF.

If you can, you want to get to Platinum so that you can access the Star Alliance First lounge at LAX on your way back home. From all reports it's not *that* amazing, but you've done the flying so you should be able to see for yourself and make up your own mind.

The VA metal flight should credit quickly, so that narrows the gap from 115 SCs down to 35 SCs. VX metal flights (unless something has changed) take ages to credit, so they may not turn up in your account in time. If they credited as quickly as the VA metal flight does it'd push you over the line with 5 SCs to spare - and then as your anniversary date will change with the upgrade, all further flights will count towards your Platinum requalification. ;)

What I'd do in your case - hang on to the boarding cards for the VA and VX flights (VA should issue both to you) then as soon as the VA flight to LAX credits, send a copy of the boarding card for LAX-FLL to the retro e-mail address and call the Gold desk to explain you want the flight credit fast tracked so that you're Platinum for your flights home. No guarantees that it'd work, but it's definitely worth a shot! :)

I'm sitting in Miami, and in theory have hit 1000 credits. I have 960 credited, but the last 40 from the internal Virgin America flight will take a while to come through. I phoned up the membership centre and they say I have to wait for them to come through, they can't recognise the flight until the confirmation comes through. This takes up to 6 weeks.

They said that they would recognise that I was meant to be on 1000 today, even if more credits expire in the meantime (which will happen).

So no way of actually using Platinum for the return trip or the same trip again in 2 weeks time. Aargh!
