How reliable is JQ35?

I've got a few spare Saturday afternoons coming up and was looking to do some F lounge "bonding" trips with the family.

I was hoping to depart SYD on JQ35 and return on the 1825 JQ flight that evening. That allows a nice cheap TT price match (2045 JQ flight is too late) and gets me back at a civil time. JQ won't allow a booking with less than 3 hours between flights so they'd need to be seperate bookings.

Is 2 hours enough of a buffer? If JQ 35 is running really late (don't know where it comes in from so I'm not ire how likely that is, has anyone tried telling JQ that it's too late and they need to leave the Intl terminal and stay in Sydney?

2 hours should be plenty of time to get from T2 to T1. JQ usually operate from the very end of the int and dom terminals respectively, so you have a reasonable walk between gates. Your 'd' sticker should get you out of the int terminal fairly quickly. A comfortable 30 minutes should do it. Make sure you OLCI for the dom JQ flight and then you can walk straight on the flight if you don't have time to visit the QF J dom lounge (which you have to walk past anyway if you need a "top-up").

I have no experience with a severely delayed/cancelled JQ flight so can't comment on what the process is - except to say that they are a LCC!

According to FlightTrack Pro, the current performance for this flight (the SYD-MEL leg) is:

On time: 72%
15m late: 8%
45m+late: 16%
Cancelled: 2%

... don't know where they've hidden the remaining 2% haha!

EF is reporting the flight as 83% on time, with an average delay of 22m when a delay occurs. :)

of all the JQ35's I've done sadly only 1 has been delayed, in the end by nearly 2 hours. it's the only time i want my flight delayed.

From my one attempt to fly on JQ35 the flight was cancelled about 4 days before scheduled departure. All Jetstar would offer was to put me on one of their other flights or refund the ticket. The rest of Jetstar flights SYD-MEL that day were full. There seemed to Jetstar code shares available on Qantas flights but they would not put me on them. The Jetstar call centre was quite hostile and not willing to offer any other help. Jetstar's decision to cancel the flight suddenly became my problem. As I had to be in Melbourne that day I ended up getting a refund and booking with Qantas.

Simply put if you need to be somewhere on a particular day I would not fly Jetstar unless they are the only choice. But they should be fine for joy flights.

Calling for a JQ35 28 July F lounge guesting request..........please be somebody be booked on that day.

Remember that while you can OLCI for the domestic flight MEL/SYD you won't be able to do the same for the SYD/MEL JQi flight so will need to wait until checkin opens 3 hours prior to departure.

On arrival in MEL you will need to clear customs as a domestic pax and hand in your boarding pass which is retained by customs before making your way to the lounge and/or boarding gate for your domestic flight MEL/SYD.

Thanks. 2 1/2 hours is enough for me in a lounge (as nice as it is!), so I'm not too worried about waiting for checkin to open.

I'll risk the 2 hour connection. It would have to be running pretty late for it to be a killer.

You should have enough time to catch your domestic JQ flight in MEL.

From my (only) experience on JQ35, the flight was on time as the flight (and plane) commenced from SYD, goes to MEL and continues to DPS.

Interesting our flight was the only international arrival in MEL at that time and there was practically no-one at the terminal. The immigration officers walked to their counters as we arrived and the customs agents has to get someone to unlock/open the automatic doors so we can leave the secured area.
