HOW to book SYD-Kota Kimbulu in Malaysia, (BKI) using money or miles?

Trying to book a week there sometime next year. April ideally but we do not care.

SQ fly in there on their own and on SilkAir metal from SIN.

SYD-SIN is of course no issue in getting revenue or award biz seats.

But SIN-BKI comes up with zero options for ANY date all year that I have tried.

Last year when I looked it was open every day.

Anyone else see this - or can suggest a way to give them money or points?!

What a way to run an airline. 🤢

Their web page isn't up to date.

They no longer fly there on Silk air, despite the web page.

They have replaced that service with Scoot. You can book revenue tickets through them, from Singapore.

Aside from them, you can get Air Asia from Singapore, or other airlines through other cities.

Air Asia from Kul is an easy cheap paid option

Or you can fly to Kota Kinabalu (note spelling) from JHB across the causeway from SIN on AirAsia or even from HKG...

Flying Scoot can earn in the SQ KF program though, (small at 15% of miles flown in Y).
If you book whole trip all the way with $, your earn in KF can be transferred to VFF at a discount.

I was trying to book Biz Class using Velocity miles, and getting on SQ metal and Silk Air metal.

When zero award seats showed all year that I looked it seemed zero REVENUE seats (biz or coach) also showed hence my question.

If I wanted to fly Air Asia (I do not) I would not have started this thread in the VIRGIN Forum, asking about SQ metal.

i would rather swim there than use Scoot. To ANYWHERE based on reports I have had from others.

One of our kids flew Scoot from Europe recently in a 787 I think they said. No IFE, no charging points for anything, even a glass of water was charged for, and a mother in here row asking FA to heat up her baby's Formula got told- ''we do not sell that so we can't handle it''.

Probably not your intention but that reply came across as very aggressive.

As answered above, nil silkair option at alL now, all on Scoot.

In the absence of any silk air option, a number of other (reasonable) options were presented and you have your reasons for not using, so other members presented options for you (without knowing the extra info you’ve now provided).

What do you think you will do now? No one of the virgin partners (other than Scoot) service BKI.

I can see a few options (all have pros/cons):

BI via BWN
MH via KUL
AAX via KUL
Cebu pacific via MNL

Not necessarily the greatest source but as a starting point for carriers into BKI:

Somewhat surprised Jetstar doesn’t service at all (from anywhere incl SIN).

MH in J pricing at $3446 ret

China Southern $4665 ret but long trip with transit 5hr outbound and 14hr on return leg

Unable to see reward options on these

Silly me, I looked at the Silk Air website that shows it as a current route -

Certainly was an option late 2019 when I looked at it.

Was one of the more attractive use on Virgin miles it seemed to me, with SYD-SIN on the A380.

Just looked at Brunei via SIN, which has full service SQ services on some days, and points needed pretty attractively low, but sadly no Hiltons there which is a big thing for us.

Were treated like Maharajah's all over India on recent weeks as Diamonds, so Hilton access is a big factor for us.

Probably doesn’t suit the OP but perhaps SQ with points to SIN and then a paid flight to BKI with MH?
MH often has SIN-KUL-BKI for under $1k return in J
