I will be travelling to the states (vegas) and then on to the UK in October, so my travel agent has advised the best way to do this is on a RTW fare.

I need to leave the states on 16 oct (most likely from LA) and don't need to be in the UK until morning of 18 Oct.

Firstly, I would like to find out how to calculate the SC and FF points for the RTW flights, as the qantas site doesn't let you do it, as it won't all be on qantas.

Secondly, I would like to get advise on the best way to route my LA or Las Vegas to LHR flights, to maximise SC since I have a little bit of time up my sleeve and figure that doing a mini SC run might be more fun than sitting around airports waiting and because its a RTW flight, it won't cost me extra.

Any help appreciated :)

BTW I am leaving from Sydney and coming back from LHR via Hong Kong, then to Hangzhou on dragon, then Shanghai to Sydney.

Hi Suey,

Mileage Monkey is your friend for calculating SC earn etc.

MileageMonkey 0.95022

Use the Oneworld Explorer Validator and tick the ignore errors.

I've not done any SC runs in the US so I cannot advise on that, but this site might be useful http://www.farecompare.com/

Cheers,

Nick

I remember seeing an Excel spreadsheet tool for calculating SC's/points that someone had made on this forum somewhere, but can't for the life of me find it!

Does anyone have a link to it?

Mileage money iis v.v.v. helpful.

You wont have to worry about fares, what you need is availability.Try www.seatcounter.com to look at class availability.

If in Y, then look for L, if in J, then look for D on the flights you want.

I believe if you choose the correct AA flights (2 class AC) you can get F seats and more importantly F SCs instead of J (if you are doing J/D). If in Y, doesnt matter.

Just look at some route maps, then look to see which flights have availability.
The oneworld.com website for their itinery planner is useful as if you plug in your planned dates/itinery, you can then go to the "book and price" and work out if there's availability that way. That also gives you the rules.

The experts will correct me if any of that is incorrect.

How about LAS-LAX-DFW-JFK-MIA-LHR? Can add LHR-DXB-LHR if there's time, or alternatively LHR-somewhere-LHR to use up extra "europe" sectors.

Also, if there's not massive time pressue, routing home LHR-DXB-HKG-SIN-HKG-Aus will use up more sectors.

Have a play on the oneworld tool and you can see the rules / options.

Brilliant, thank you so much, I will have a play around to see what I can do :) I figure it is my best chance at reaching platinum next year, this year I will only get to around 900 SC, as all my flights are usually cheapest red e-deals.

 No worries.

After you'd have a think / play around, then post up a proposed routing (and clarify travel class) then the "experts" can have a look and "optimise" for you.

Just tried using Mileage Monkey and I can't connect to it. Has it ceased operating or just down at the moment?

I think it's down - I tried to open it this afternoon with no luck!
