I have a dilemma. Just realised that ms spatsky's (4) QF points (4900 pts) expire in 2 weeks. I can't transfer them to me because they aren't at the minimum 5000 to transfer.

She is not going to fly in the next two weeks. Is there any way that i can keep them active so that i do not lose them? She doesn't have a credit card in her name (obviously). Would an everyday rewards card do it?

Ideas?

Everyday rewards card about a week delay in posting so you need to do this straight away.

I would register for a EDR card but I think you would be cutting it pretty fine, worst case I believe the wording is you just have to earn points so just buy the minimum points ($20, 500 points) if you get down to the 11-hour or just a thought can you transfer your points into yours therefore its a earn?

Hmmm - intersting - so Boris to be 100% clear - little miss spatsky is 4yo and has 4900 QFF pts in her name - but they expire in 2 weeks?

I know nothing about QFF T & C's but wouldn't be a kinda sensible and simple way to try to build loyalty to not have an expiration date on kids FF accounts till they turn 18?

What could ever be the down side for an airline?

Get 'em while they are young - it works for Maccas.

Head thee to Woolies. And bring portable internet.
You should be able to pick up a temp card (from the form) and register is straight away on line, then make a purchase. And hope the points hit the account before 2 weeks.

The QF website says you can only buy points with a specific award in mind (and buy no more than 15% that is required), so not sure if you can buy them for the sake of transferring.

Another way would be to go to a QFF partner, like a restaurant, and flash the card (after making a qualifying purchase).

Or, if you want to score some brownie points (no pun intended)(well maybe a little) would be to buy Mrs Spatsky something from Qantas Frequent Flowers. As that is operated by Qantas the points should hit the account sooner than the other options (theroretically).

Pretty sure transfers don't count. Happy to be corrected.

I'd be getting an edr card registered and used this weekend.

All good ideas but leaving the FLounge this arvo for 3 weeks away! Have to get Mrs Spatsky onto it, but i dont think she really cares!

Could you transfer points into your daughter’s account and then transfer her total points back into your account? The only downside is that it will use up your transfer allocation for 12 months.

I did this recently as my daughter had less than 5000 points, so I “bought” them from her.

You can now signup for EDR without first getting a card, you can then print a temporary card out! Problem solved, assuming you go shopping and use the Temp card.

Sign up online then send her some chocolates from home shopping or Big W online.

"Family Transfers" do not count as activity.

However, a transfer of 5000 to mini's account with a transfer back of 9500 would solve the problem as there'd be no points left in mini's account to expire.

You do realize that points that expire represent pure profit for the QFF program? That's probably the down side for the airline.

In that case forget it. Go with the Frequent Flowers option, or the points sweep option (transfer in then out). Learned that one from Lindasy W. Transfer in to wifes account, then transfer whole balance to childs account, then back to mine. Add other account to the circuit as required.

Have a safe trip!

I have done this too... just transfer 100 points into the account and then the 5000 points straight back out. Problem solved.

EDIT: 5000 point minimum transfer - 5000 in and 9900 back out.

This! Simple and effective. You could even transfer back the 5000 in the future...

Subject to the minimum transfer requirement it would have to be 5000 points transferred in.

Thanks guys. I did the sweep as suggested -5000 in to her account, then 9900 back. Cant transfer for another year but i rarely do it anyway. The concept had not even crossed my mind.

Thanks for your help again, AFF to the rescue!
