how to maximise Velocity SC BNE-China?

I am looking to organise a return flight to China in September. being DJ Gold, I would like to travel with Vgroup and their partner airlines in order to maximise SCs.

Can anyone out there suggest an optimum route?

Malaysia is pretty much your only real option. There is also Virgin Atlantic (via SYD), but the furtherest they'll take you is Hong Kong (and the SC earn is less anyway).

There's no difference in SC earn whether you leave BNE, MEL, SYD or ADL with MH. Because of their limited flights etc, you will also find it hard to find anything else other than a direct KUL-<china> flight.

Ethiad won't price up fares for that route.

Gurus,I need some help here with routing and carrier options. What I have come up with so far is. VAustralia wil only get me to Singapore on their global deal fare for under $500! But then I need to get to china beijing or shanghai. Singapore airlines will go bne-singapore-Beijing The wife wants to come so we will also need to bring our 2 (just)year old son, so maybe a night time flightwould be a better option. Please adviseHow should I avoid? Any recomendations. From the gurus of that route? PS I am velocity Gold. And QF red

Flight centre has quoted me sme decent prices on Royal Brunei business class return, though not sure about their aging fleet. Any thoughts?

not sure of your timing though, as flew to KUL and had a stopover for a few days.
return was PVG - KUL at 10am ish but was late and didn't leave until a couple of hours later.
arrived at KUL at 6.30pm and left for sydney at 10.30pm
partner with Virgin.
no brainer for me as happy to fly MH(points upgrade return in J) , and stopping over in KL for F1 anyway

Malaysia Airways would be on my list but paying for 2+1 child n business gets exxy, do they allow upgrades for velocity points? How many points would be required? Would their be any status benefits (Velocity)? when flying on MH?

looking at a flight Friday night (night time flight will be easier with the 2 yr old as he should sleep on my lap.) Happy to stop over in KL, HongKong, or singapore.

I just need to be in Beijing for a conference on the 19th and 20th September then I will have 4 days to tour and fly back around saturday night.
