How to score an Upgrade

This is the same article they pull out every couple of months when they don't have real content to publish, and IMHO it's a rubbish article.

Why did I click on the thread or the link and then the comments against the article???? I get sucked into this garbage every time!

Be secretary to a high flyer (millionaire or above) or some type of influencial person... They actually employ people to go through passenger lists and watch who is on what flight.

People of influence are far more likey to get an upgrade than Joe Blow. And yeah.. if you do actually fluke one it is close to a miracle.. Enjoy but seriously, I'd rather any seat than no seat and checking in last isn't a great idea on an overbooked flight. They don't default to business they default to "bad luck sunshine" and will look for those ifluential people on the flight to upgrade instead.

The above quote was one of the readers comments in response to the article.

Would love to know which airline employs people specifically to trawl through passenger lists of flights looking to upgrade influencial people. These days generally a person's frequent flyer status tells an airline how much of a frequent flyer they are.

Sometimes "but I'm a frequent flyer" from an NB means they've just signed up last week via WWEDR rather than flown dozens of flights with that airline.

I am equally as tragic.

Trawling down to post #4 here

In addition to clicking on the link to the article !

There's option to unsubscribe. I've done that on a number of threads when it gets too much.

My ten tips on getting an op up:
  1. Travel in disguise, this will confuse the airline at check in and cause them to think you are more important than you actually are
  2. Be more important, ditch the disguise
  3. Wear stilts, it is going to make that leg room excuse work a treat
  4. Book yourself in Y on a plane that only has J, this will leave them no choice but to upgrade you
  5. Be in a rampaging affair with the check in agent, probably best to have this going on with several check in agents to increase chances and play the jealously card
  6. Stare them down, just keep staring... they are sure to crack before you are
  7. Have either no luggage, inordinate amounts of luggage or just the right amount of luggage
  8. Regardless of the amount of luggage, carry on
  9. Fly on Wednesdays and only Wednesdays. This is guaranteed to work, for reasons I am unable to disclose, except when it works on Tuesdays instead.
  10. Be Therese Rein, look up KRudd member's entitlements to see how often she has been op upped over the years. This is the only one I can guarantee will work. Note it may not work after September.
