Hi all,

Think I've found my new favourite forum. Plenty of invaluable tips and tricks.

Am hoping someone maybe able to provide some pointers please.

Current situation

Credit cards -gold Amex (QFF direct) 20k, platinum reserve Amex (MR) 30k, platinum CBA 40k and 28 degrees card for overseas. Both amex's are member branded so I get lower annual fees. I'm also a member of velocity with about 20k points. I'm just below the salary threshold for the citi select card but don't see the CBA card as a particularly effective tool for earning points. More so just when I don't want to face a c/c surcharge.

Im currently a little lost as to how to direct my earn (mainly through c/c's). I work in a small business however I don't think the boss would be comfortable with me putting ATO costs through my personal card, as much as I'd love to.

I have very little domestic travel (work related and using virgin), and my main flights are to the USA (4x p.a. in Y at the moment) using qantas as they provide a convenient transit to my final destination on the same ticket. Only other travel is likely to be the odd trip to Singapore (in Y) for work (sg air or qantas- usually whatever's cheapest).

Given upcoming travel to the US I'm considering doing the AA plat. challenge as even in discounted Y at 0.5 points per mile 2 trips in Y gets me there (if my calcs are correct?). As I understand it this would allow me access to the qantas club and A/C when transiting? Additionally, would it be worthwhile for me to look at doing open jaw tickets originating from the US to save some $? Or do the potential change date fees make it redundant?

While I'm not up the front of the bus, these programs have hooked me as an aspiring FF, and given I've still got plenty of years ahead of me I figure it's worth taking the time to maximize the offerings.

Sorry for the essay. Would appreciate any advice you've got to give!

Cheers

Welcome to AFF tdogshookem!

There are a number of questions in that post. I think you may get a better response if breaking down the post and posting in each of the relevant forums, such as AA, credit cards, and not in Introductions....

Hi John,

Thanks for the heads up. Just found a great AUS-SYD return for $1250 in Y, so that gets rid of one of my questions!

Will put up some posts in another section.

Cheers
