Hi,
as it has been a way a lot of German and French customers are using I think I made the effort to write a english HOWTO for this.
First a Disclaimer:
1. I do not take any blame if it does not work AND especially if the rental station does not accept the Voucher - This does happen (frequently). Usually you can get a price reduction in those cases by calling the hotline (i.e. they reduce your price to a class below your actual class).
2. It is an "availability upgrade". That means it does not entitle you to a bigger car, it does not entitle you to a car that you normally could not rent (due to credit card or age restrictions) and you of course have no guarantee to get a bigger car for sure. BUT it does normally work that they reduce the price (sometimes needs to be done by the hotline) if you do not get a better car.
3. It has been noted by a few customers that the definiton of upgrade varies from station to station and especially from country to country. While normally you get a full "class upgrade" (e.g. from SDMR to FDMR) some agents see it as a "next more expensive class" upgrade..Which could mean FDMR become FWMR, etc.
4. It does help to speak a bit of German here but with google translator or this HOWTO it should work. If you have any questions/problems write me a PM.
5. It is only valid for UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, France and Spain. NOT Valid for long term rent and special cars.
6. You can only print out one voucher per year.
7. The Voucher is valid only for 4 weeks after you buy it. That means: Print it out 4 weeks before you use it.
8. You (at least officially) need a billing adress within the EU.
9. You need Paypal
HOWTO:
1. Make your usual booking.
2. Go to "undsparenDOTde"
3. Click on "kostenlos anmelden" (Free registration - In the lower left corner of the window)
4. Enter the required data. Anrede means "Title" (Mr. /Mrs.) . Vorname means first name. Nachname means Last name. Email-Adress...Well..You guessed that?
5. Check the "Ich bestätige die AGB die Datenschutzvereinbarung und habe die Widerrufsbelehrung gelesen" (means I accept the general terms, the privacy declaration and the instructions of cancellation).
6. Click on "Jetzt registrieren" (Register now)
7. Click on "Schließen" in the next window. This window asks you for coupon codes. I'm not aware of any working ones at the moment but I will post them here if I come across any. If you find a valid coupon code you can skip the next steps.
8. Click on "Mein Account" (My balance) in the lower left corner of the page
9. Click on "Konto aufladen" (recharge account) on the next page.
10. Choose a amount of money you want to put into the account - for Sixt vouchers the smallest amount (10EUR) is more than enough-. You can choose the amount in the "gewünschter Betrag" section of the page
11. Choose Paypal in the "Zahlungsweise" (Method of Payment) area
12. You need to enter a valid EU Adress here. Straße/Nr. means Street&Number (Note, enter the Housenumber after the Streetname here), PLZ means Postcode, Ort means Town, Land means Country.
13. Click on "Konto aufladen".
14. Go thru the PayPal procedure until it brings you back to the undsparen Site. You now should have a 10.00€ number next to "Mein Account"
That was the hard part
15. Click on this link: (HAVE TO ENTER THAT LATER, PM ME, I CAN NOT POST LINKS ATM - Or google for "Sixt undsparen")
16. Click on "Coupon drucken".
17. Print out the Coupon
18. Either contact the SIXT Hotline or use the online checkin to put the Voucher number and the fact that you have a voucher and want to use it into the Note field of your booking.
19. Done. Have fun.
(20. You can use the other 9€ for other vouchers. Most of them are only valid in Germany. I will post here if I stumble across something that is interesting for a broader group of Travellers)
If you have any problems contact me by PM. If you use this please tell others about how it did go in this topic.
(Technical note: A few users in Germany&Austria did setup various accounts to get more vouchers. This did work sometimes.Sometimes it didn't. And one user claims he has been blacklisted by Sixt for this. -Which I do not believe)..
So long,
Hater
