Anyone got their hands on one of these Android phones yet? I come off contract in July and am seriously considering one, the specs look good.

I'll be interested in reading the reports too, SeatBackForward - come off my contract in August and have been looking at one of these babies as well!

Yes will do, if the quad-core is as good as my Transformer Prime, ill be mightly happily. Though looking at prices, i might be better off getting an unlocked one and picking up a pure data plan, or at least one with a minimum 4GB per month.

Yes, I have one

It is the best Android phone on the market at the moment, battery life far better than a Samsung Galaxy II

It's also a very nice size, a little bigger and quite enjoyable to use!

I also will will be thinking about this new beauty as i have just become familiar with the HTC settings

I've got one. Upgraded from a HTC Legend. Very happy with it so far. Satisfied with the battery life. I actually wasn't look for an overly large phone, but it seems you can't get a highly spec'd one that is also in a small form factor.

Good to hear, I've got one of the original HTC Desires, and stangely enough, its starting to fail on me just as I'm approaching the end of a 24month contract...

Sounds good - I have a Legend, but the battery life is cough. Battery life is going to be a significant consideration in whatever replaces it!

I suspect the definition of good battery life will differ between people. For me, if it can go a day without a recharge I'm happy. I generally need to charge between 24-36 hours.

Vodafone this morning released a firmware update. One of the features is meant to be improved battery performance. I should have a better idea in the next week or so if there is much of a change. Either way though, it's nice that HTC were so quick with an update.

Well by some freak of nature - or more likely - planned obsolescence my Desire stopped working 3 days short of my contract renewal date. Doing some internet searches, turns out the problem i'm suffering is a faulty motherboard which is apparently common on this model of phone, and can only be reapired by a full motherboard swap, which would've been fine under warranty. Of course, im still in contract, but not under warranty. Planned move by Telstra to get me to re-commit to another 24month contract?

Well screw you Telstra. The salesman was trying to convince me on the merits of some Blah Blah CAP plan..I told him, the concept of a CAP plan is meaningless, you could offer me a $10,000 cap for all I care, because i know you'll just up the call rates to $1000 per minute, with a $500 flagfall..And as Choice quite right put it, its not in fact a CAP at all, but a MINIMUM SPEND...

Anyhow, I really couldn't justify getting the HTC One X, or the 4g XL, the missus would've had a fit. Now that i'm unlocked, so I'm free to swtich to anyone I like (I'm thinking the Amaysim $40 a month plan, no contract, unlimited calls and 4Gb monthly data), this is the latest gadget I've got to go home and fire up tonight:

This be the Google Nexus, made by Samsung, but without all the bloatware you get from Telstra/Optus/Vodafone, or even all the bloatware the phone manufacturers put on..just pure Androidedness.

My son updated his HTC Desire to a HTC One X and is very happy. He had an iPhone but scrapped it as soon as the Desire came on the market.

Ummm so you say your phone is faulty ? But you are going to go to a plan where you have to BYO phone ?

I am going to get my tin foil hat for the rest of your post..........

I don't think the current Telstra (or the others) plans use the word 'CAP', as there were some issues with the terminology!

Meanwhile, I am just twiddling my thumbs waiting for the end of my contract....

The word cap is currently or has been banned from use..........

I think the 1st of July is when a new set of consumer laws came into place for banks and telcos.

Banks must now use any payments made to pay the highest interest rate first, and not the lowest, etc etc etc

I've ditched the faulty phone - well it doesnt work anymore, so its not a phone at all. The BYO isn't a plan, its a month to month deal, I can opt out at any point, and the phone I bought comes with a 12mnth warranty anyhow, the same as if i were on a plan..

Maybe, maybe not.

The ACCC's position is that a phone provided under contract will last the length of the contract!

Correct which is why all phones on 24 month contracts have 24 month warranties now

But with 3 days to go, it's likely Telstra would say you are out of contract/sign up again

I was commenting more on the new phone - you'd likely have a longer warranty if you signed up to a 24 month contract versus the 12 month buying it outright.

You get a warranty as per the contract you sign

12=12
24=24
Outright=12, but you could get it longer if you pushed

When did this rule start? The original contract I was on was signed in July 2010.
