From today's Travel Daily (30/8/12):

Hyatt to exit Sanctuary
HYATT has announced the
“amicable termination” of its
Sanctuary Cove management
agreement after 24 years, with
the move effective 05 Dec.
Mulpha, the owner of the Gold
Coast resort, said it would shortly
announce a new “established
international hotel operator” for
Sanctuary Cove, with the
companies working together to
ensure a smooth transition.
It’s another blow for Hyatt
which had its management of the
now Coolum Golf Resort
terminated earlier this year by
billionaire owner Clive Palmer.

Seeing as though Mulpha own the IC Sydney do you think there's any chance we'll be getting our first IC resort soon?

Definitely potential for an IC, although the place would need a bit of work.

Noooo.

I have also heard that InterContinental is keen on the Park Hyatt Canberra.

Bugger off, IC, I say.

Interesting... Maybe reading too much into it but the comment about expanding distribution across Australia and NZ through Hyatt Place and Hyatt House makes me wonder if they did in fact bid for Mantra. Time will tell I guess..

EDIT: 5 minutes later announcement Mantra not being sold after all http://www.hotelmanagement.com.au/2...-sale-its-business-as-usual-for-mantra-group/

Yes agree, and the resort is tired, some friends have the club hyatt deal, just around the corner from my place so handy for P/Priv deals and dining if it does go to IC.

Queensland does not need another Sofitel that does not play the loyalty game, it does need more IHG presence IMHO!

HOTELS: The Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove, long billed as one of Australia's most iconic resorts, is about to get a new management company.

The owner, Malaysian conglomerate Mulpha, is tossing up whether to grant Accor's luxury Sofitel chain the management rights or sign the InterContinental Hotels Group, ending a decades-long association with the Hyatt group.

Agree, hopefully sanity will prevail and a new shiny IHG Inter will arise from the Sanctuary Cove dust ......

I [-]winner[/-]wonder if they have factored in the cost of "Royal Ambassadors" and free mini-bars in their calculations. :p

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

I wonder if you need a new spell check LOL. methinks they have good data on the IC side of things given they own Sydney.

Very happy with this!!!!!

HOTEL giant IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) has won the management rights for one of Australia's best-known resorts, Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast, ending a decades-long association with the Hyatt chain. As reported in The Australian last month, Accor's luxury Sofitel brand was the other contender to run the 247-room resort.
The owner, Malaysian conglomerate Mulpha, will hand the property - developed by the late Mike Gore in the 1980s - to IHG at midnight on December 5.
Both Mulpha and Hyatt have previously said that ending their agreement was amicable, with Hyatt saying both parties were then free to pursue other options

Confirmation from the owners:

Mulpha Sanctuary Cove (Developments) Pty. Ltd. (Mulpha) has reached a commercial agreement with IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) through a Letter of Intent to manage its Sanctuary Cove resort, which will be known as InterContinental Sanctuary Cove.

The management agreement will become effective from midnight on 5 December 2012 when the current agreement with Hyatt of Australia Limited comes to a mutually amicable end.

This will be the second Australian property managed for Mulpha Hotel Pty Ltd by IHG with InterContinental Sydney having joined the Mulpha portfolio of property and lifestyle investments in 2004.

The Mulpha portfolio also includes Sanctuary Cove, Hayman, The Hotel School Sydney, Bimbadgen Estate Wines, Norwest Business Park, 99 Macquarie Street, FKP Property Group, Salzburg Apartments, Marritz Alpine and Cathedral Street Car Park.

Please keep in mind that the same owners run the IC Sydney, who are not appreciative of that program when attempting to merge RA benefits with BOGOs.

Isn't the property quite a way from the nearest airport? I'd like to do a Hyatt stay there before it defects but I thought It was an about an hour from the airport.

Its not that far given it's pretty much all freeway from Brisbane or OOL, and it's on the door step of three of the main theme parks. Having a son who is keen to help dad get the best value from his three park super pass, I can see a few IC stays coming up!

I would estimate about half an hour in good traffic from OOL, not sure from Bris maybe about 50 mins, both routes have been improved, ie Gateway motorway now 3 lanes, and M1 3 lanes from about Robina to Nerang.

Markis I dream of retaining Gold status never mind RA benefits :)

And yes the theme parks are calling my family as well .......

Interesting process to watch the changeover, with less than a week to go its still not bookable at IHG, and got this email with no graphics or anything today!
