I got WP :) So What Now ?????? WP1

Hi Everyone,

I got WP last week and when I started flying at the start of Feb this year it was my goal. I wasn't expecting to achieve it for another 3-4 months but the double SC points speed it up.

So I wanted to know what others have done once this is achieved. I do 5 Dom flights in Y each month, plus 1 or 2 J flights to England and LA each year. So I'm averaging 200sc from the Y flights each month with a kick of roughly 600sc per overseas trip. My SC's roll over in 1st of April. Collectively I could do 1200sc based on no travel in the last 2 weeks of Dec and first 2 weeks of Jan + one OS J trip and I have 1450 in the bag right now.

1200+600+1450 = 3250 so close to the recommended WP1 :mrgreen:

Or as others have done, do I cross to the dark side and throw the next 6 months to Virgin, they have a crazy deal on the new amex card of buy 1 J seat and get 1 free???? could hold value.

More questions than answers.........

So with WP in the bag for 18 months do I hold out for a huge benefit of WP1 or go to the darkside?

Two points from my perspective.

First, QF has said that Platinum One will be at about 3600 status credits. The final number isn't yet confirmed. However, QF has also said that regardless of the threshold, there will be a minimum requirement of QF status credits (as opposed to oneworld generally). My thinking is the minimum will be at least double Platinum (2400). So you may need to consider this.

Second, an alternative to DJ is to continue flying with QF and credit to AA's AAdvantage program. There are a number of threads around here comparing the value of both.

.... and attaining WP status, and then not using it by flying another airline seems a bit pointless.....

Also, any status credits above WP still get counted to your lifetime status credits. 1200 more this year is not an insignificant contribution towards Lifetime Gold's 14,000.

Remember, though, you can still attribute your points earning to AA, for example, and still utilise all the benefits of QF Platinum at the same time. But I take your point that flying with DJ, for example, would mean you're not using your Platinum status.

Yep, I was agreeing with you... I just didn't phrase it well....

Status is one thing, what about the value of your points and the beauty of having a choice. Last year I hit PG with QF but with the changes coming in I saw no reason to shoot for that level again when I can shoot for more benefits elsewhere, so decided to give DJ a go! Now I have re-qualified DJ Gold with 6 months to go, about the same time it took me to hit WP, giving me an extra 66% car rental points, and I have discovered there are some very good ways of getting value out of those DJ points in remarkably flexible/short notice periods for little cost .
