I just confused QF and SIN airport staff

Just flew CGK-SIN-SYD-CBR. QF5202, QF292, QF1433
QF5202 is operated by 3K202, so I checked in with Jetstar Asia in Jakarta.

I was checked through to CBR with boarding passes for all sectors and bag tagged through.

Upon landing at SIN, I went to the transfer bus over to T1. The SIN staff member checking people at the entrance to the transfer area was confused that I wanted to transfer to T1 when I had a Jetstar branded boarding pass and it took her a moment to find that the flight number for the next flight was QF. Then asked to see my baggage tag. Got confused that it was tagged through to CBR, and that the claim tag didn't have the CGK-SIN leg listed. She let me through to the bus and suggested that I check that QF got my bag when I got over to T1.

Got to the QF J lounge, and they accepted the Jetstar issued boarding pass no problem. Confirmed that QF had gotten my checked bag.
I moved to the F lounge when that opened. They couldn't get the Jetstar issued pass for QF292 to scan, so they reprinted onto QF card.

Landed in SYD. The step 1 immigration card machines weren't working, so everyone was going through the manual processing. The immigration agent I got had "never seen" QF292 on an incoming passenger card before, thought I had written it wrong and asked to see the boarding pass.
I was expecting for customs to send me over for the shoe disinfecting thing because I was in Indonesia and the whole mad cow thing, but they let me straight out.

Got to the QF transfer area for the bus over to T3. They saw the Jetstar issued boarding pass and started to insist I was going to the wrong place. I had to point out the QF1433 flight number.
They then got confused that my bag had Jetstar tags for both International connection and through to CBR.
Sent through to bag drop who had also never seen more then 1 sector on a Jetstar issued bag tag. Accepted the bag as tagged and asked if I knew where the lounge was in T3.

Got the bus over to T3 and into the J lounge. Again, they thought I was in the wrong terminal upon seeing the 3K issued pass for QF1433. Had to tell them that the boarding pass was issued by 3K in CGK, and not JQ. Not sure if the boarding pass actually scanned on the lounge barcode scanner and they asked to see my platinum card.

I did not think 3K would interline tbh. Useful to know.

Understandable confusion (except the QF292 immi officer thing) but yeah I can see the other issues.

Did you see if QF app tracked your bag at all?

Wow. I had none of these issues when going 3K > QF from BKK last year (codeshare qf on 3k) or MNL this year (3k then qf).

They may have only interlined because I was booked on the QF code.

The QF app tracked my bag just fine for the outbound (CBR-MEL-CGK). Never updated at all for the return. Checking the tracking page on the app from any of the returning sectors just said it was awaiting collection in CGK last Friday night.

It is one of their exceptions to allow baggage transfer from an international flight to a partner airline

Please be aware that we don’t transfer your baggage between flights. However, there are some exceptions:

  • Connecting international Jetstar flights and flights with our partner airlines (see list below), where both international flights were purchased on the same booking

QF292 operates near daily and has done so for almost nine months, so surprised at that comment from immi officer.

It's a weird flight number compared to most QF internationals, but reflect the Finnair wetlease arrangement.

The step 1 immigration card machines weren't working, so everyone was going through the manual processing.
OT: I was in SYD international this morning (came of SQ221 0555 arrival) and the Step 1 machines were working fine ... in fact, I was out of immigration and at the luggage belt under 10 mins from deplaning. Machine issue must have been after that?

i Wonder when the last time SYD Dom J saw a Jetstar boarding pass. Everything is digital now and most people on JQ dom aren't QFF plat either (or if they are, they're at QF F ).

There were people lining up at the first batch of the machines before the duty free shop. When I'm arriving via SYD, I normally skip that batch and head to the other machines just after the duty free off to the side before the immigration and e-gate lines start. When I got there, they were just roping those off and was told they weren't working. When I was in the normal immigration line (with the AU/NZ line full of assorted Asian passport holders), I saw signs up on the e-gates and all the screens turned off. About 0640.

it was only the 2nd time I've been on a Jetstar branded aircraft.
First time was a JQ A330 MEL-NRT, connecting from QF out of CBR. That time they changed the QF boarding pass for the JQ flight to a JQ pass at the gate before I could board.

I think I escaped the machine issue by 35 mins!

HEY! I do (and did) the exact same thing each time :D The first batch is where everyone deplaning goes to, but I skip and try the machines near duty free. Today around 0605 there were 2 machines in the first zone and at least 10 people were queuing. I skipped that one and went straight near DF and there were machines and 0 pax!

I've found lately that the QF app offers up a digital boarding pass for a dom connection as part of international itinerary, even if a physical boarding pass was issued. So I just use that and keep the physical pass in my bag.

Did you break it?
I know I broke a couple in MEL a few months ago. Things had an error scanning and just seized up and seemed they they would need a case of turning it off and on again.

Never had that happen with the earloer versions.

Perhaps the implementation project was ill-defined and needed to be scrapped a few times over. Or they made poor choices for the delivery partner & project team. The two most common reasons for project failures usually are the stakeholder & project team's ability to deliver, both present above.
