I suspected the air plane glasses are not cleaned up to standard.

Hi,

I've recently travelled to Turkey via an airline (Boeing 747).

I've ordered a Sauvignon and I spotted the wine glass was not cleaned properly when I started drinking the wine.

Considering it's a First Class Cabin, I was expecting everything to be perfect, well... at least up to standard.

I really want to get an idea of the procedure for cleaning the plane cutlery, dishes and glasses.

Is there a specific standard to be followed by the cleaners?

I need advice on whether or not I should file a complaint regarding this matter so the airline will improve the hygiene standard.

Thanks.
J

Hi there. Airline crockery and glassware will be washed in industrial dishwashers with plenty of hot water and cleaning agent.

It's possible there may have been a mark on something, but it's highly likely that mark is not going to be dangerous as it will have been through hot water.

If it was a mark, let it be. If it was gross ... like residual wine or a truly dirty glass ... make the airline aware, but realise they most likely aren't responsible for the actual washing; as MEL_Traveller indicates, it would be done by a third party in some large facility. Airline's responsibility for providing pax with clean glassware of course, so a good airline will appreciate the feed back.

My sister lived, worked and travelled in soviet Russia has a story about a dirty glass on an Aeroflot flight in the early 1980s. "Excuse me this glass isn't clean." was dealt with by the FA spitting into the glass, wiping it out and handing it back to her.

Love it. These days some people would get offended on your sisters behalf:)

Just out of interest, which was the airline? I am trying to figure out if the 747 was flown on the leg to Turkey or out of Australia?
