Can somebody tell what is supposed to happen in the following case:

I've made a booking at Sydney IC for three nights ( NOT NYE ... end of May ) via the PP website, and using a BOGO ( 2 for 1 ) voucher. Price came up as X amount. Booking confirmed with credit card.

A day later, I find the booking changed to reflect a price increase of about $100. for the three nights, and it says the booking is at the 10% Off Best Flexible Rate. When I dig into the booking details, it shows a 50% off rate for one night ( instead of a zero cost ) ??

As an RA, I was expecting to see an upgrade from the 'standard' room I booked .... no upgrade, just a higher rate charged !!!

What 'should' I have been able to expect here ???

What did your original email say?

Re: NYE 2012 at Sydney IC

This is a separate issue to the NYE message I got back.
I've only just noticed this 'modification' to my end of May booking tonight.

When you made the May booking you would have received an email confirmation of the booking. What does that email say?

Re: NYE 2012 at Sydney IC

Looks like I've deleted it. Thought I saved it, but can't find it.
I did look at it when it came through, and I don't recall there being anything odd looking about it.

What I can say, is that above the booking details when logged on, is the word 'Modified' ... which is from Reservations ( ? ).

I'm waiting on their reply to an email I've sent directly to Syd IC, asking for an explanation.

Re: NYE 2012 at Sydney IC

Well, here's the deal with IC Sydney ( and maybe all ICs? ) ...

Today, I had a multiple email interaction with Reservations ...

In summary ...

If you book via the PP website, using a BOGO ( pay for first night, get the second night free ), then as an RA, or Ambassador, you WILL NOT receive any room upgrade.
This applies all year round.

Eg. If you want a Club Lounge access room ( any type ), you MUST book and pay for that class of room.

I booked a 'standard' type room using a BOGO, and the reply was - sorry, even as an RA, you will not have access to the Club Lounge.

They say all other privileges of RA will apply, however, there are NO UPGRADES in room type, if you have booked via PP using a BOGO voucher.

I made a second booking, using a PP 25% off voucher for a third night in a Club Lounge access room, and that is OK.

Total cost for me, was about $200. more over the three nights. ( I'm sure it will be worth the additional cost - my associate and I will give the bar a good 'going over' !! )

Re: NYE 2012 at Sydney IC

I re-read what I said in my last post ...

Just to clarify:

I re-booked the standard room with BOGO, for three nights ...

I now have a Club access, ( city view only ) room for three nights, as a confirmed booking ... and that cost me about $200. more than the previous booking for three nights in a standard room. This was using a PP BOGO for the first two nights, and a 25% off voucher for the third night.

So, with the 'other' RA privileges, I think that's not a bad offer. ( got another email, confiming my request to access my room shortly after 08:00 hrs. on a Sunday morning - though they did indicate, this was not guarenteed )

Additionally, there is absolutely no PP voucher use at IC Sydney over NYE period ( not certain what the definition of "NYE period" is? ). This includes the 25% off vouchers.

There is a min. of a three night stay - For Eg. check in on 30th. Dec. check out 2 nd. Jan. in a city view Club room, the rate is $4,869. for THREE nights !!!

Gee, there'd want to be a VERY nice bottle of something in the room on check in !!!

Re: NYE 2012 at Sydney IC

... but the email merely showed, that the booking was for a standard room, using a PP BOGO. It didn't confirm any upgrade offer or it wasn't a 'confirmed' Club access booking, so it really doesn't matter. I have the current booking printed out.

What mattered, was IC Sydney telling me, that the booking I 'had' was not going to get me into the Club Lounge ... ( so I cancelled and re-booked )

Re: NYE 2012 at Sydney IC

I always keep an original copy of any booking confirmation until after the stay.

Things such as rates and room preference can change - it's always good to have backup in the unlikely even things go wrong.

Re: NYE 2012 at Sydney IC

Your original issue was a price change

"A day later, I find the booking changed to reflect a price increase of about $100. for the three nights, and it says the booking is at the 10% Off Best Flexible Rate. When I dig into the booking details, it shows a 50% off rate for one night ( instead of a zero cost ) ??"

Re: NYE 2012 at Sydney IC

Sorry about all the detail. I did a bit of experimenting with combinations of PP vouchers, days and how to get the best outcome.

I think the IC Sydney Reservation Dept. modify bookings to give the least cost to the customer. Maybe I overlooked something.

Anyhow, I think I have a good deal from them for this three night stay. If I could change the title of the thread, I would ... given it probably doesn't accurately reflect the substance of my issues.
