If choosing F out of HKG, who would you choose?

My F experiences are limited and experienced only on QF and AA

What would be the general consensus I wondered about the best F product out of Honkers back to Sydney. I'm sure he QF product will be up on the list, but after a quick Zuji search, I was astounded at the choices.

there is only one direct service HKG-SYD in F - and that'd be QF. It's an ok product out of HKG, but catering is pretty lousy.

then I would rank in the following order:

SQ via SIN
CX/BA via SIN
TG via BKK
EK or MH

I'm doing CX HKG-SIN on a 77W, connecting to QF SIN-SYD next month. I've never flown CX before in any class and am looking forward to it.
I've limited experience and have flown QF, BA and AA F and rate the A380 experience as the best so far.

An aside...TG HKG-BKK and SIN-BKK will be A380 early October.

fingers crossed for no aircraft sub! But you will have an amazing time on the CX flight. Even the short ones are spectacular! :)

As MEL_Traveller alluded to, CX HKG-SIN is notorious for aircraft substitutions, particularly changes to aircraft w/out an F cabin.

Strangely, I've now had 2 occasions when I've been booked into F on this segment, and about a month out, F has been removed from the aircraft, and I've been rebooked into regional J. Then, on the day, an aircraft with an F cabin ends up on the segment, and I've been seated in the F cabin (albeit with J service) with 1 or 2 others.

CX F remains my favourite within Oneworld, although QF A380 F runs it awfully close. The AA flagship seat, however, is easily the most comfortable in the sitting position, though.

You guys must be psychic  On QF website this morning and looked at my CX bookings for next month and both have been subbed for J :( I had a look at the CX website and sure enough ICN-xHKG-SIN now in regional J. CX had not notified me of this and had (un)helpfully allocated me middle seats on both flights !! The flights are paid F bookings. I'm not too sure what to do now. At this stage I proactively contacted CX via telephone and re-booked on a service with F from ICN-HKG. There is no F service on the day I need from HKG-SIN. The best the call centre could do was offer to re-book me on an F service if one should become available.

Is there any recourse for this? That is very sucky and I hope all turns out OK in the end. Makes me nervous regarding upcoming CX flights...

The only surefire F routes from HKG to SYD will be QF F (non-stop), then SQ F (Suites; part of the SIN/HKG/SFO route) via SIN. I don't know if EK have a HKG/SIN service, otherwise it too will also be a surefire F route.

Other F routes like CX connecting to BA/QF, or TG via BKK, are both at risk of having a 2-class aircraft on the short connector. If that's not a big deal to you, then that's fine. (You can get creative, e.g. CX or JL F to NRT then TG F to BKK then TG F to SYD, but that's going nuts now).

(It's surprising that CX have withdrawn all aircraft from Australia which operate F, leaving only 2-class 333s).

My personal preference would be QF F if only to suit for schedule, otherwise whatever on the short connector to BKK then TG F. At least both long sectors are about 8-9 hours which means decent sleep possible after the meal. Flights ex-SIN are barely up to 8 hours and don't seem long enough IMO, though if you have a double F with the connector, you may not mind this (viz. second long sector, go for a quick meal and then long sleep, or perhaps you are one of those people who do not get a lot of sleep!)

This is a real shame and happened a few years ago now. What is even sadder is the removal of the OWE / F check in queue - I have had to check in alongside OWS...

It must mean QF F SYD-HKG is doing good business as the monopoly F service on the route!

sorry to hear that :(

I only mentioned it because the last three times I have booked on KA F PVG-HKG they have substituted the aircraft (or changed it completely in the schedules) meaning no F class. And I know CX is similar for some of their short hauls. KA proactively called me to say they were pleased to have protected me on the same flight in business class. Sigh.

I wasn't too impressed by them not calling and auto-allocating me a middle seat in the middle of J
I'm going to at least try to pursue an original routing credit with QF if nothing changes as I still have the original e-ticket and F booking itinerary.
I'm probably also due some of the fare back as well but I've no idea how to go about that.

IIRC they should give you some compensation at check-in - but I can't remember where I read it. Applies to paid F tickets, not awards or upgrades.
