If I find a better Classic Reward flight, should I do a new booking, or change the original booking?

I'm booked in J next year on a CR from CDG/LHR/SIN on BA11, then paid from SIN to MEL. I noticed CR availability opens up and changes from week-to-week.
If I see a better flight from say, CDG/DUB/SIN on F, should I just grab the new flight and cancel the old booking, or try and alter the original booking and get the points and fees refunded? I'd hate to be fooling around trying to modify the old booking and lose a better flight. Some of the good ones disappear as I'm searching.

By "CR", I assume you mean Classic Reward?

(CR is not an acronym that's widely used on this forum.)

It may depend on a couple of things, if your original booking was made before 30 Sep you can change, add to it or cancel without any points fees up until 31 Dec. If it was made after 1 Oct 22 the normal rules of 5000 points per PAX to change and 6000 points per PAX to cancel apply. Depending on status you may/ maynot be in for lengthy call wait time to change your existing booking and potentially run the risk of the agent stuffing it up or the seats being lost while QF reticket, heaps of threads/stories about this happening in this site. Depending on you points balance and any urgency to be refunded you may be better off just booking the new route.
