... the difference here is that there isn't much that QF can actually do to rectify the situation...
Might I suggest, that if the rumours around the city regarding Emirates are true, they ensure Emirates lounge access (& at their contractors lounges as well) for QP card holders travelling on any potential new JSA between the two airlines.

How would Emirates & Qantas have a Joint Service Agreement?

Emirates is a direct competitor, some would say Qantas's biggest and most threatening competitor.

Emirates and Qantas in bed together?
Interesting thought isn't it (although, as I said merely a rumour I heard)... but seems vaguely plausible.

Should Qantas announce it is pulling out of FRA, wouldn't it be left with only two services a day on its "own metal" to Europe (LHR to be precise)? There is a valid argument that given Virgin's relationship with Etihad, the ACCC should allow Qantas to form one of its own with a mid-east carrier.

They do say that if you keep your friends close you should keep your enemies even closer but I for one can't see any chance of
a JSA between QF and EK,just doesn't sound possible.
Cheers

QF may have a benefit from it but I cannot see how EK would derive a profit. They already fly direct into all major international ports in Australia.

Do EK really need an onward domestic network?

What is your source on these rumours?

Can't really see it happening, if anything it would be back to Etihad.

There are a few years to go yet on the Etihad/Virgin alliance. And reports from both sides suggest it is actually a good tie up for both airlines.

Cannot see EY dropping Virgin in favor of Qantas

From memory, EY actually did loosely partner with QF when they first started flying to Australia. This was subsequently dropped when the DJ tie-up started.

What would EK have to gain in a JSA? Surely they are content to sit back and watch the QF network shrink over time.

Then they're in a far stronger position to bargain over domestic feeder traffic into AU.

Qantas are supposedly using BA. CX and MH via SIN. KUL, BKK and HKG for flights into Europe. No need to partner up with EK.

More likely, EK will just buy QF and sublease it out to do some crop dusting.

What's the sauce for this rumour,
the deconstructed first post doesn't give much away.

Interesting a longish thread on PPRUNE about a big announcement coming Thu (when Qantas publishes results) but speculation is more about the Malaysian tie up.

Clearly EK flies to more places than just Europe.

Seems some people think the announcement might be about something else.

TWU lose appeal amid fears of job losses

ALAEA federal secretary Steve Purvinas said there were rumours that Qantas would use the unveiling of its half-yearly financial results on Thursday to announce job cuts.

I thought some of these comments (from almost 7 months ago) were worth a Friday arvo revisit, in the light of recent announcements! :p ;)

Amazing how some of these rumours actually came to fruition!!!
In a lot of ways, QF will be a major benefactor by removing their main rival. What EK gains is hazy, but probably better domestic connections and maybe extra access to ports from Australia.
Can't help thinking it is good news from QFF point of view and from QF travellers point of view. It has been hard to resist the better service, seats, cabins and chauffeur service.

They get extra business from those that would have flown to Europe via Qantas and a OneWorld partner, and now will choose Qantas and Emirates. Their market share can only grow.

No SCs
