The Brisbane Holiday Inn is to become the first of Shangrila's Traders brand in Australia-
Exclusive: Holiday Inn Brisbane taken over by Shangri-La | HM – The Business of Accommodation in Asia-Pacific

InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) presence in the Brisbane market is set to disappear in the coming months, when Holiday Inn Brisbane is re-flagged under Shangri-La’s fast-growing Traders brand.
HM understands the changeover will take place in early August, however, both IHG and Shangri-La were unable to comment on the take-over when contacted yesterday (June 14).

Must have finally sold the hotel, pity as they have always offered good service and the rooms are nice after the reno.

Please tell me there are plans for IHG to actually have a hotel in BNE at some time in the future?

I'm a staunch IHG supporter, but I can't fathom how a major international hotel chain would not have a presence in BNE, with the closest being the Crowne Plaza in GC.

Having moved from SPG Plat to IHG when the Sheraton left Brisbane, it's a feeling of de ja vu, mind you there are a few chains that seem to be unable to get a foot hold in Brisbane, which I find odd given the prices on offer.

Losing the Burswood hotels, now the HI Bne (although that's been a long time coming)...not good!

Not too fussed with Burswood, the frequent gamblers always took preference and it was one of the few lounges without spirits.

That's very annoying... with IHG being my hotel chain of choice, and Brisbane my most frequent destination. So will finally use the Airport Novotel then on my next trip, as my meetings are usually at/near the airport anyway.

Didnt I get shot down in another thread for complaining about IHG slowly (not slowly!) withdrawing Aus options.

Bummer, the HI BNE is well located and nice post refurbishment.

BNE is now Accor city! Almost a full complement available downtown (though with one notable exception in participation in LeClub Accorhotels).

Going to miss the HI BNE, though it was not feeling very loved for a long time (quite a late time to instigate the renovations).

Personally I think BNE would have enough traffic to support a CP, let alone a HI. The mining industry packs in the guests anyway.

Maybe we might get an IC from the Tabcorp redevelopment - will be a while though!

Nah echo entertainment won't have a ic or similar. They dropped the Conrad relationship due to a conflict with rewarding gamblers vs elites. Also aren't they branding the ic and hi in Perth at burswood?

Does anyone have an email address for someone at IHG that you could email regarding this?

Seriously, even Adelaide has an IC and CP.

Arn't you getting the ownership of the various properties a bit screwed up, Burswood is Packer, who is hardly an Echo fan. And given they are adding a new hotel while keeping the old one, I expect there is room to move. Jupiters left Hilton before they were sold off, the new ownership/board may see value - who knows?

Both fairly new additions to the IHG stable, like BNE previously they only had a HI which moved around three properties, perhaps hope!

Yeah had my facts wrong, thought per was closing up burswood and renaming. But still possible...

Will echo want a hotel chain brand? Dont think so. They don't have one at star...

I don't think it's IHGs doing, they only own a handful of properties while the rest are either franchised or they are contracted to run, with the owner of the building getting the say come end of contract.

Well, it is IHGs doing if that's how they structure their contracts / run their business.

I've been very happy with IHG but the constant changing of properties and diminishing Aus options means im starting to consider whether I bother any more.

Where am I going to get my 4square priority club 50 points when I go into Brisbane city.
