Immigration thru LAX

Hi!
We will be arriving at terminal 5 LAX via virgin next week. Our next flight is on air alaska from terminal 6 to washington DC about 5 hours later. Do we have to clear customs, collect our luggage at terminal 5, take a shuttle to terminal 6 and check in again?

You will certainly have to clear immigration and customs. Normally on QF to AA flights you just drop your luggage immediately after customs clearance as it would be tagged to final destination, but I don't know whether you'll be able to do the same with your carrier combination. (At a guess, I would expect that you should be able to.)

You don't need to catch a shuttle the terminals are next door, out door turn right couple of 100m and your there.
