Wow this really got me. I saw what I wanted to see. Free. Now I have already book the hotel in Central Berlin. It is still a good rate but internet is not for free. Please can anybody suggest a good pre-paid internet experience of their's in Germany. I know that there is free interent at Starbucks and MacDonalds but I was hoping a mobile broadband option like we have in Australia exists in Germany as well and at a good price? I leave in 2 days please any suggestions would be fantastic. Links too.

Cheers

Hotels that charge fees for access are not worthy of our business - I avoid any hotel that does not include access in the rate or package.

That must certainly limit your hotel choice.

Not really - most places have a club or exec level that includes access.

Every now & again I get stuck (because the wife want's to stay at XYZ) but I just suck that one up - and put the charge on her card ;)

In room internet is not for free and found out it is a heafty 19 Euro per 24 hour period. But on the contrary it is very fast and agile as compared to the shared internet services elsewhere. The Kempinski though should make it cheaper! There is also Starbucks outside(across the road) and for a coffee u do have the internet. (free).

I did some quick shopping yesterday and MediaMart a shop like Harvey Norman in Australia has sveral options including surf sticks and micro sims for the iPad. My German friend pointed me to O2 and Vodafone and D Telekom. They are cheaper. I finally went with O2 I got a surf stick 7.2 MB prepaid not locked and a microsim that can be used between the ipad or iPhone.

If anyone has any other experiences please write!!

Cheers from Berlin's Autumn

So far from my (underline)own experiences in Germany. I have found T - Telekom very good to purchase a sim card for an iPhone and pay one Euro per day for unlimited Internet !!!
I beats 24 € per day at the Kempinski Hotel.

Also Deutsch Telekom has a deal for WiFi in Germany and shares it with Boingo but you pay approximately 29 € for 30 days. It is also unlimited download. Make sure you have access to it ( WiFi) otherwise you will have problems with access.

The Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens has free wi-fi access in all rooms and public areas of the hotel, can be a little slow at busy times but still usable and no cost.

Recently back from the UK & a few other places, in London we stayed at Covent Garden Hotel - great hotel & highly recommended.....internet access at a whopping 20 quid per 24 hours:shock:

Everywhere else we stayed in Spain, Paris & BKK access was free/included.

Netcomm my zone + local prepaid sim with Internet = winning

There are some hotels in Germany like the Hampton and Hilton (if you have exe. lounge access to the latter)They provide a reasonable wifi set up and ok quality.

FEE does not equal Free

Cheers

Wasn't sure where to post this. Since I hate in room Internet for a fee it sounded like a good place to bag Vodafone service in Australia.
Vodafone is a bad company because....
I have just been charged 128 dollars by Vodafone for a non existent service. A service which had been ordered but not activated due to a faulty sim. When I rang up to ask for an explanation as was further shocked by lack of any help. I was unable to block any further credit card charges. They don't return phone calls. The manager Sunil was very negative did not want to come to a resolution. Ie return money.

I rang my credit card provider they cancelled and flagged the company.
Thanks Centurion black card account services. Completely different experience there.

Should I take to ombudsmen,
?

Absolutely. The Ombudsman is largely a toothless tiger, but opening a case with them costs the company you're complaining about. It's usually sufficient incentive to have them have a manager call you that can actually help (ie, in this case, get your cash back).

Vodafone - the company who sends me a bill for a credit every month without fail.
They want to make you bend over backwards to get the credit refunded...
