To paraphrase someone on Reddit when they found out Victoria's Basement opened in QueensPlaza late last year: Brisbane's a real city now. Replacing the Hilton and undergoing a two-year refurbishment.

Will be good to have an Intercontinental property in Brisbane. But this particular property is very old and dated in every respect. I wonder if the refurb will actually properly and fully modernise it or it it will just end up like a pig with lipstick.

There are quite a number of IHG properties in Brisbane or are you just referring to Intercontinental brand?

Lets hope they do a proper refurbishment or everyone will remember it as the Hilton Brisbane
They have a mere 2 months or so... I'd like to see what they can do with that just in that timeframe.

I don't think they'll be changing a whole lot, particularly in the rooms. At least the bathrooms are up to scratch.

That property charged consistently high rates and still was just as consistently filled.

There is no way that its anything more than new lipstick for the opening in June - re-branding is all they can achieve in that timeframe. But the article linked in the initial post in this thread suggests a 2-year process to get to the end game:
The reopening will mark the beginning of a two-year conversion project
So we can expect that it may be a work-zone for much of that time.

Given the 2032 Olympics are getting closer by the day ( :) ) I expect all of the major and not-so-major accommodation brands are looking for opportunities for property in the Brisbane CBD, I expect IHG has jumped at the chance for a prime location with plenty of time to get the property to the state they want it to be.

The property has always been handicapped by the lack of suites, will be interesting to see long terms if this changes, as well as the inability to provide cots.

Finally…. But it will be a faux IC for a while, as I echo what everyone else has been saying - this property is incredibly tired.

Any insight as to when we can book?
