Intercontinental Hotel
Friday 16th November - Sunday 18th November
Check in time 3:00pm
Check out time 11:00am
Room Club City Side (Deluxe)
Room Amenities Elemis
It was a gloomy and cloudy friday, I check out at the Citygate Sydney at 10:35am and made my way to the Intercon by taxi, I planned to arrive and ask if the room was available, if not i would leave my luggage with concierge and wander around circular quay and find something to eat. 10 minutes and $16 dollar's later a handsome tall porter opened the cab door and was grabbing my luggage from the boot before i could find out his name.
I was greeted by the reservations Supervisor and he proceeded to grab my details and just to my luck, my room was ready, way ahead of the check in time. I booked under the F&F rate equalling to $245 per night, he informed me i got a good deal by booking in advanced as room rates were above $350 over the nights I was there, he asked if I have booked under that rate before and I told him it was my first time, he smiled and handed my my room keys, room 1512 it was.
The elevators were a bit on the slow side, it took around 2 minutes from Lobby to level 15. The room was spotless, modern and smelt fresh, the bed and pillows was very comfortable, plenty of room for me to roll around as well as accomodate the other half, the air-con vents were quiet. Even though the robe was small, there was 10 hangers, and plenty of lighting in there. I've always been and will be a fan of a bright hotel, I'm not fond of dark hotels with little to nothing lights in the room, much to my pleasure there was plenty of natural light coming in from the window as well as plenty of lamps around the room, house lights were bright as well. I also like the automatic light blocking blinds that were featured as well, that switch can be found to the right of the bed. Intercontinental Hotel also features a turn down service before 6pm.
Other features of the room and to my liking was the work desk and its comfy chair, very generous sized desk with 4 power points, if my mind serves me right there was a total of 9 power points in the room, you can fit 2 15 inch mac books comfortably next to each other and still have ample room for a notebook to scribble things down.
Opposite the bed is a nice couch/ daybed, pretty confortable, I didn't find the need to use it much as I had the bed so the couch was a place for our shopping and various item's of clothing. With that, by the window is another couch/ place where you can sit and gaze at the museum of Sydney and the streets below. Bathroom amenities were products of Elemis, the bathroom itself was nice, bright and respectable, nice feature of the built in speaker that would sound whatever was on tv, gave myself a shock when I was showering at midnight and my partner decided to watch some horror movie! The little window which gives you acess into the room is quite a nice touch.. great to catch the news if your shaving..... or showering without the shower curtain!
Housekeeping does a fantastic job, I came back the following day and thought I walked into a brand new room. Housekeeping also arranged my toiletries in the bathroom from tallest to shortest, she even gave my shaver a rinse... she got a pretty good tip when we left too!
Other features of the hotel included level 31, which features a pool/spa, club Intercontinental, a 24 hour gym and a function room. For after hour use of the gym guest's need to contact the lobby prior to use. The Intercontinental Sydney is well placed, with a 5 minute stroll to Circular Quay its location is fabulous for the business person or leisure traveller.
