Hi All. Happy New Year!

Can someone please tell me if the interline connection times on the flights on this route is possible, travelling on VA staff travel standby tickets (sibling category)?

SIN to BNE on EY 470 arriving in BNE at 0940
connecting with BNE to AKL NZ 136 at 1115 arriving in AKL at 1715
connecting with AKL to RAR VA 163 at 1900
OR
connecting with AKL to RAR NZ 748 at 1935

Considering I will be travelling on standby tickets, do I have to clear immigration and collect baggage at BNE and AKL and then check back in to my connecting flight or can I transit through without clearing immigration? Will my luggage be automatically transferred between standby flights? Is there enough time to make these connections between flights?

Looking forward to you responses.

Thanks.

Sam.

Staff travel is heavily regulated and talking about it in public is generally a pretty strong no-no. Can you just ask the person for whom you're getting the staff travel entitlements? I'm sure they'll be able to help more.

I would imagine MCT's apply to staff travel equally though as revenue (although with luggage, i'm not sure, it can get messy with standby).

And welcome to AFF SpicyRambutan!

Wouldn't suggest discussed non revenue travel on a non-industry forum. The airline will have a major issue with this.

Through connections are not available. You'll need to collect your bags, clear customs and immigration and relist for your next flight. If you get on, you'll either be accepted at checkin or upon flight closure.

I don't know anything specific about VA staff travel however generally speaking the majority of airlines will not & through check to other airlines when on staff travel because each airline would want to control the onload process of standby passengers themselves.

They will not through check your baggage for the same reason as they don't want a bag loaded on to the next flight if you're not going to be on it. The above itinerary would require you to collect your luggage & clear customs at both SIN & AKL which means you need to have collected your checked baggage, cleared customs & immigration then made your way to the checkin counter for the next airline before the close the flight which is usually about one hour prior to departure.

I'd have to say that trying to get from SIN to RAR via 2 cities on three separate airlines is pretty optimistic as there's people wo wouldn't even attempt such an itinerary on a commercial ticket for fear of missing a connection should one or more flights be delayed,

I would suggest if you do go ahead with the above that you take hand luggage only because it would make your life easier not having to clear customs and immigration in BNE & AKL assuming that NZ & VA would be happy to check you in at the airside transit desks in both BNE & AKL.

Can you avoid going via BNE & fly non-stop SIN/AKL instead? That would at least minimise having to go via BNE.
