Hi folks,

Does anyone know if VA points redemptions (specifically on partners) are calculated based on mileage for each leg, or the great circle distance between start point and end point?

I'm considering what to do with my velocity points once my balance gets up a bit, and a J trip to southern africa is fairly high on my list - however, if the points are calculated based on (for instance) BNE-SIN and then SIN-JNB, instead of BNE-JNB, it becomes an awful lot of points!

Why not just check the points price on the Velocity website?

Ahah - I see the trick now! I'd been looking at the points calculator, which just said 'Miles: Not available', but I realise now that the way to do it is a flight search, not the calculator. Sorry folks, I guess this was a stupid question!

Having said that, I can now see the points required but don't see the underlying logic - BNE-JNB is 40,000 points more than JNB-BNE (all on Etihad), and I don't see anything in the Velocity points tables that explains that... Weird, but I guess I can live with it.

Thanks Jim.

Yeah, I've noticed a similar thing for MEL-LHR too. Don't know the logic but I think it's fairly common.

Thanks Jim.
No probs :)

I have found the best thing to do is ring the call centre than trying on line.
