Hi everyone,
I hope I'm posting this to the right area (just joined so apologies if not!).

I was looking at flights from ADL > LAS then LAX > ADL on July 10 and returning July 24th respectively. The flights came up as approx $1800 with United (I know, total bargain). This was last Thursday.

On Friday morning I went to book - flights had gone up over $800!! That's cool, I thought maybe that was a special fare that had sold out. V Australia had a similar flight the day before for about $80 more - that too had gone up. In fact, every flight I looked at on Thursday 28th April was approx $800 less than it was the following day.

I double checked Qantas' website and those fares had gone up too, whereas before they were around the $2200 mark I think, on Friday they had gone up to $3500 for the above routing. :o

So my question is.. what on earth happened? I mean, I know fares get sold out but I looked at the seats for all those flights and there was plenty of availability. Did some big thing get announced and I missed it? Surely not every single airline was having a sale that ended on Thursday?

As the flights have gone up so much I can't afford to go on holiday now - is it worth waiting until closer to the time to see if they come down? Do they ever come down? What would you do? (apart from build that time machine... ;)) Really confused and hoping that you guys know what this might mean.

Cheers :)

I'm not sure why things changed so much for your searching, but there are still fares for about $2600 on other airlines if you do a search on zuji - AirNZ and others.

I think July school holidays may play a part in your problems with higher than normal prices. I wouldn't count on flight prices decreasing as this is a reasonably high-demand time. I hope you get to go!

thanks Dr Mikki :) thought it might be because of school holidays, I guess I should have booked when they were $1800. $2600 is a bit too much to stretch unfortunately :(
